Google.org Extends Support for aiEDU to Enhance Nationwide AI Education
In an ambitious move to prepare educators for an AI-driven future, Google.org has announced the renewal of its support for the AI Education Project (aiEDU). This commitment is particularly timely as schools across the nation wrestle with how to equip students for a workforce increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. With renewed funding that builds on previous contributions since 2023, Google.org aims to deepen aiEDU's reach over the next few years.
Founded as a nonprofit with a mission to ensure every student is well-prepared for an AI-infused world, aiEDU has significantly impacted 5,455 educators and 185,938 students across 17 states thus far, with special emphasis on rural and Indigenous communities. This support has come primarily through two flagship programs: the Community Catalyst Program and the Trailblazer Fellowship. The Community Catalyst Program has been instrumental in funding local school districts and community organizations to forge pathways for AI readiness, particularly in those areas where access to resources is limited. Meanwhile, the Trailblazer Fellowship provides individual educators with training and resources necessary to promote AI competencies in their classrooms.
These programs began as pilot initiatives in real-world classrooms, gradually expanding their concept through learning and adaptation based on feedback from teachers and students. As a result, aiEDU’s influence has extended to over 48,000 educators and 1.9 million students in schools across 42 states, demonstrating the organization's significant role in shaping AI education.
The renewed support from Google.org will propel aiEDU into a critical next phase as it seeks to broaden its impact. Starting from March 2026 and planned to continue through February 2028, the organization aims to expand its partnerships with school districts, especially those qualifying as Title I schools. These collaborations will co-develop strategies focused on AI readiness, equipping educators with essential resources to effectively teach grades 3-12. Furthermore, aiEDU is set to scale up more flexible learning pathways that include the Trailblazer Fellowship, asynchronous courses, and train-the-trainer programs. This means that thousands of additional educators can access high-quality professional learning opportunities, enhancing their teaching capacities in AI education.
In addition, aiEDU will launch professional learning communities, ensuring that school administrators and instructional leaders are not alone in introducing AI education strategies. This collaborative approach underscores aiEDU's belief that successful AI readiness cannot exist without the enthusiastic involvement of teachers and educators who understand their students’ needs best.
Alex Kotran, Founder and CEO of aiEDU, expressed the organization's appreciation for the continued backing from Google.org, stating, "Google.org has been a valuable supporter of our work to make sure that every student in America is ready for the future. We've learned that AI readiness can only be successful if it is championed by teachers and educators for their students and their communities. Google.org's support is bringing aiEDU to the next exciting phase of our mission, to significantly expand the breadth and depth of our reach."
