Shanghai Electric Unveils Innovative Energy Solutions at Enlit Asia 2026 for Sustainable Future

Shanghai Electric Unveils Innovative Energy Solutions at Enlit Asia 2026

From September 22 to 24, 2026, in Jakarta, Indonesia, Shanghai Electric showcased its commitment to energy transformation at the Enlit Asia 2026 trade fair. With the theme "Energy for the Archipelago," the company introduced three tailored solutions addressing the pressing energy needs of the ASEAN market, focusing particularly on carbon reduction, renewable energy integration, and stability of island grids.

Key Solutions for ASEAN Energy Transformation

1. Highly Efficient Energy and Decarbonization: This solution targets markets like Indonesia that are striving to lower the carbon intensity of their energy systems. Shanghai Electric plans to achieve this through upgrading existing units, transitioning to alternative fuels, and optimizing overall system efficiency. Utilizing modular gas turbines designed for H-class combined cycles, the focus is on both electricity and heat production while enhancing efficiency and reducing costs. Notably, their latest gas turbines are compatible with hydrogen blends of up to 30%.

2. Modernization of Grids and Enhancing Resilience: Addressing the challenges faced by island power grids, this solution incorporates synchronous condensers, flywheels, multi-technology energy storage, and integrated solar and storage energy modules. These components work harmoniously to improve frequency regulation and voltage stability, ensuring a steady electricity supply even in remote areas. The energy modules provide clean emergency power solutions that can be deployed quickly, enhancing grid resilience in the face of increasing renewable energy incorporation.

3. Integrated Power-to-X Solutions: Resuming from the successful Jilin Taonan project, these solutions encompass the entire value chain from wind and solar energy production to green hydrogen and methanol synthesis. Achieving a world record with 8,000 tons of green methanol produced in a single operation, phase two of this initiative aims to generate 200,000 tons of green methanol and 10,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel annually. Shanghai Electric is now extending these solutions to the maritime and aviation sectors within ASEAN to support the transition towards low-carbon fuels.

Local Engagement with Region-Wide Impact

Shanghai Electric's technology and systemic solutions are backed by a proven track record in Southeast Asia, having executed significant projects including the Pelabuhan Ratu coal power plant in Indonesia, a renewable energy project in Malaysia, and a recent gas-fired power plant in Sarawak, Malaysia. These initiatives further cement the company's capabilities in modernizing traditional power generation, leveraging renewable sources, and promoting eco-friendly fuels, creating a robust foundation for future implementations of these innovative energy solutions across ASEAN countries.

At Enlit Asia 2026, Shanghai Electric contributed to the official conference program by presenting a talk titled "High-Efficiency Gas Turbine Technology for Clean, Efficient, and Smart Electricity Generation." This presentation outlined its technological roadmap and regionally tailored solutions for effective gas turbine systems and combined-cycle projects. Further, the company engaged in various roadshows and exchange events, where representatives from Indonesia's national energy provider PLN, local customers, and academic experts discussed fuel diversification and the development of Indonesia's energy landscape.

A Sustainable Future Ahead

As Shanghai Electric moves forward, the company aims to leverage its capabilities in power generation equipment and systemic solutions to collaborate with partners in ASEAN nations, fostering the transition to more efficient, stable, and low-carbon energy systems throughout Southeast Asia. The ambitious goals and robust projects presented at Enlit Asia 2026 affirm Shanghai Electric’s pivotal role in shaping the future of energy in the region.
