Seven-Eleven Unveils New Cat-Themed Products for Cat Day Celebration

Seven-Eleven's New Cat-Themed Product Launch

On February 22, known as Cat Day in Japan, Seven-Eleven Japan, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, announced the launch of its new product line titled 'Nyanko Hakken!' (Cat Discovery!). These cat-themed products will be available across the nation starting February 16, just in time for the festivities celebrating our feline friends.

To commemorate the launch, a special media event complete with a tasting session was held on February 17. Media representatives attended to discover and taste the delightful new cat-themed sweets and bakery items, accompanied by insights from the Seven-Eleven team on the inspiration behind the 'Cat Day' initiative.

Hinako Sakurai Takes Center Stage as Cat Day Ambassador

To help promote the new product range, the cat-loving actress Hinako Sakurai was appointed as the 'Cat Day Support Captain.' Her appearance was met with enthusiasm, and she greeted attendees with a warm, cheerful smile. "Hello everyone, thank you for being here today!" she exclaimed.

Hinako, a self-proclaimed cat lover, shared touching stories about her feline companions. "I've had two cats at home since I was in sixth grade, and this year they turn 17! I adore them! We often chat about cat-related topics in our family group chat. The charming yet aloof nature of cats really captivates me. They bring an immense amount of joy into my life!" she narrated passionately.

When discussing the new Cat Day products, she expressed her excitement, stating, "I’m really looking forward to them! Every sweet from Seven-Eleven is delicious. And of course, I can't resist anything with a cat-themed package. Just imagining the combination of cats and sweets is simply unmissable!" with a playful cat-themed pun.

Meet the Special Cat Store Manager

In a delightful twist, a co-host for the event was introduced—Psyche the cat, dressed in a cute Seven-Eleven uniform. Upon seeing her, Hinako exclaimed, "Look at those adorable little paws! She looks fabulous in her uniform!" The audience erupted in laughter.

As the MC called for the unveiling of the products, Hinako revealed a range of new delights like crepes inspired by calico cats and parfaits designed with playful cat expressions, delighting the guests with their whimsical designs. Hinako expressed joy over the charming packaging, stating, "The packaging is simply wonderful, making you want to pick it up right away. The names themselves are incredibly cute!"

Sampling the New Treats

It was time for the tasting! Hinako was the first to try the 'Calico Cat Mochi Crepe.' "I’m amazed at how soft and chewy it is—so tender that you might squish it!" she remarked, impressed by its texture. After tasting it, she said, "Each bite leaves you coming back for more; it’s just that delicious!"

Shioi Maeda, the merchandise planner from Seven-Eleven Japan's Bakery and Sweets Division, revealed that the crepes were designed to capture a cat's plush belly, stating, "We wanted to create a visual that resonates with cat lovers. The fluffiness encapsulated in this crepe is a tribute to that warm feeling!" Hinako nodded in agreement, recalling her own cats and nodding appreciatively.

The 'Nyan Parfait,' inspired by cat paw prints, was next. Hinako was excited to try it, and after her first bite, she exclaimed, "It’s wonderfully rich and has a substantial bite!" with her signature smile.

At the conclusion of the event, Hinako promised the audience, "With limited quantities, I’m determined to try every single product before they sell out!" The launch event radiated positivity and enjoyment as it wrapped up, echoing the enthusiasm everyone shared.

Insights on ‘Nyanko Hakken!’ Product Strategy

Koji Hasegawa, a senior merchandise planner at Seven-Eleven Japan's Bakery and Sweets Division, spoke about the booming 'Neko-nomics' (cat economics). He explained how this trend has grown into a robust sphere that significantly impacts consumer behavior. 2026 is projected to witness further growth in this market, as cats have transformed from mere pets into beloved companions that provide emotional support and joy, especially through social media engagement.

Hasegawa noted, "Cats are no longer just cute creatures; they now enrich our daily lives, invoking shared happiness among people of all ages—a delightful cycle that brightens our everyday."

In response to this expanding phenomenon, Seven-Eleven Japan proudly introduced its 'Nyanko Hakken!' product line, featuring six varieties of cat-themed baked goods and sweets. Customers are encouraged to find their favorite item and celebrate a heart-warming Cat Day.
