Desert Control and Oasis Date Partner to Conserve Water Efficiently Using Innovative Clay Technology
Collaboration for Sustainability
In a significant step towards sustainable agriculture, Desert Control AS announced a partnership with Oasis Date, the largest grower of dates in North America. This collaboration aims to deploy Liquid Natural Clay (LNC) technology across 160 acres of the premium Medjool date palms located at Oasis Date's Corn Springs Ranch in California. The move is particularly critical given the increasing challenges of water conservation in agriculture.
This agreement, which carries a value of NOK 1.5 million, builds upon a successful pilot project launched in July 2024 that involved the application of LNC on 13 acres of date palms. Notably, the pilot program yielded impressive results, demonstrating significant improvements in water retention, soil health, and overall crop performance. The full deployment is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2025, marking an important milestone in scaling up Desert Control’s innovative solutions across Oasis Date’s operations.
Oasis Date manages an impressive 5,000 acres of date farms and is renowned for producing over 1 billion dates annually. As the primary supplier for the popular Natural Delights® brand, which is recognized as the number one Medjool date brand in North America, Oasis Date actively leads the charge in promoting sustainable agriculture practices. Notably, it is recognized as the world’s first and only Regenerative Organic Certified® date farm, underscoring its dedication to environmental sustainability and fair practices for farmworkers.
Ole Kristian Sivertsen, the CEO of Desert Control, highlighted the partnership’s alignment with Oasis Date’s commitment to sustainable, regenerative agriculture. He stated, “Oasis Date is setting the standard for sustainable and regenerative agriculture, and we are proud to collaborate on this initiative.” Through the utilization of LNC, Desert Control aims to assist Oasis Date not only in conserving vital water resources but also in improving soil quality and crop yields.
Moreover, Marty Weems, Managing Director of Desert Control Americas, emphasized the alignment of values between the two companies. He remarked, “Oasis Date is a strong leader in their industry, and their dedication to sustainability and regenerative farming practices aligns perfectly with our vision.” This partnership is expected to lower operational costs while securing the long-term sustainability of Oasis Date’s ranch operations.
The LNC technology developed by Desert Control works by transforming sandy, well-draining soils into more fertile environments that can retain moisture better. This innovative approach not only reduces the need for irrigation but also supports healthier plant growth, which is crucial for crops requiring stable water supplies. The potential for broader adoption of LNC technology across Oasis Date's vast operations in both California and Arizona could set a benchmark for innovation in agricultural practices.
As the agricultural sector continues to face increasing pressure from climate change and resource scarcity, initiatives like this partnership between Desert Control and Oasis Date serve as vital examples of how technical innovations can lead to more sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices. With a focus on water conservation and maintaining healthy soils, this collaboration not only promises economic benefits but also contributes positively to environmental stewardship.
