Gaspar's Bold Move into Aquaponics
Gaspar Inc., a subsidiary of the Daito Group based in Shinagawa, Tokyo, has announced its plans to enter the innovative field of aquaponics, an integrated farming method that combines aquaculture (fish farming) and hydroponics (soilless plant cultivation). This exciting venture aims to transform underutilized land in urban areas into productive farming spaces. Construction will begin in November 2025 on a 4,600-square-meter farm located in Nishi Ward, Saitama City.
The Vision Behind Aquaponics
The primary goal of this initiative is to establish a sustainable agricultural model within accessible regions by utilizing idle land. The farm will be designed to cultivate a variety of leafy greens, edible flowers, and herbs in the hydroponics area while raising fish, including sturgeon, Japanese “honmoroko” fish, and tilapia in the aquaculture section. This dual farming approach not only maximizes land use but also promotes environmental sustainability by eliminating the need for chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
From April 2026, fresh produce grown from this facility will be marketed under the brand name
