The Sister Accord® Foundation Commemorates 12th Annual Sister Accord® Day

The Sister Accord® Foundation recently hosted its 12th annual Sister Accord® Day in Cincinnati, a weekend celebration dedicated to empowering women and fostering community connections. Founded by the dynamic Sonia Jackson Myles, the Foundation’s mission emphasizes the importance of sisterhood, leadership, and love. This year’s event, aptly named “A Weekend of Sisterhood & Love,” took place on August 30 and 31, encouraging attendees to perform acts of kindness in their communities.

On August 31, 2013, the City of Cincinnati officially declared this date as The Sister Accord® Day, a testament to the impact the Foundation has had on local society. The celebratory weekend kicked off with the 34th Leadership Development Tea Party at Prime Cincinnati, featuring a focus on mental, emotional, and physical health, as well as the critical role that gratitude plays in effective leadership.

The tea party highlighted some extraordinary leaders who are making waves in their respective fields. Notable honorees included:
  • - Lindsey Webster, a world-renowned singer and songwriter;
  • - Kala Gibson, Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer at Fifth Third Bank;
  • - Tracey Artis, CEO of JazJordan, Inc., and I Hear Music, Inc.;
  • - Mary Y. Graham, Sr. Sales Executive at Integrated Solutions Consulting, ATT;
  • - Rachel DesRochers, serial entrepreneur and founder of The Gratitude Collective.

One of the significant announcements from the tea party was the launch of a new program titled "Equipping A Generation Of Leaders For The City Of Cincinnati." This initiative, funded by Procter & Gamble and BT Rise, aims to empower 100 local girls by providing them with the tools necessary for future leadership.

Additionally, the event featured a keynote conversation titled “The Power of Gratitude,” led by Sonia Jackson Myles alongside honoree Rachel DesRochers, shedding light on the importance of gratitude in our daily interactions and personal narratives.

Among the standout moments was the selection of Mar'Kia Williams as the recipient of the Nella D. Jackson Memorial Scholarship, which awarded her $5,000 to support her educational journey. To further enhance the experience, a masterclass on safe travel strategies, under the theme “Safety in Sisterhood™,” was conducted to equip attendees with vital information regarding their personal safety.

As the celebration continued, the festivities transitioned to Ludlow Garage for a captivating concert featuring chart-topping artists, including Kim Waters and Lindsey Webster. The event culminated on Sunday evening with an electrifying performance by the acclaimed R&B artist Rahsaan Patterson. Reflecting on the successful weekend, Sonia Jackson Myles expressed, “Our work is more important now than ever, and this weekend illustrated just how powerful it is when boys and men stand with us on #OneAccord™, proving that peace, love, and kindness unite us all.”

The Sister Accord® Foundation has made a substantial impact both locally and globally, providing over $300,000 in scholarships and grants to women-owned businesses, along with their YouTube channel, which boasts over 88 million views. Current international chapters include Zimbabwe, Malawi, and South Africa, with an upcoming chapter launch in Lagos, Nigeria, slated for 2026 alongside future expansions to Ghana, Liberia, and the Bahamas.

This year’s events were made possible thanks to the generous support from numerous partners, including Ludlow Garage, Prime Cincinnati, AAA – The Auto Club Group, Fifth Third Bank, and many others.

In summary, The Sister Accord® Foundation continues its mission to transform the dynamic between girls and women globally, encouraging them toward self-love and sisterhood through education and community engagement. As the Foundation looks forward, the spirit of sisterhood and empowerment will undoubtedly thrive, inspiring many more girls and women to join the movement.
