High-Grade Antimony Mineralization Unearthed at Desert Antimony Mine
Locksley Resources Limited (ASX: LKY, OTCQX: LKYRF) has reported remarkable findings from its
maiden drill program at the Desert Antimony Mine in California. The inaugural drilling efforts have confirmed the presence of high-grade antimony mineralization situated below the historical underground workings of the mine. The results are a significant boost for the company, marking a promising prospect for future mining activities.
Significant Drill Results
The drilling program involved eight drill holes, six of which returned exceptional intersections of antimony. Highlights of the findings include:
- - A peak value of 33.51% Sb over 0.4m
- - 4.0m @ 4.87% Sb recorded in hole DADD005A
- - An intersection of 2.0m @ w.69% Sb in hole DADD0003
- - A further 1.4m @ 5.62% Sb from hole DADD0004
These results not only indicate robust mineralization but also reinforce the continuity of high-grade stibnite mineralization along the strike, extending below the existing underground infrastructure.
Insights from Management
Ian Stockton, non-executive technical director at Locksley, praised the initial drilling results, emphasizing the importance of this phase of exploration:
"This drilling at the historic Desert Antimony Mine represents the first assessment of depth extensions of known antimony mineralization beneath the historical workings, with mineralized veins encountered at depths up to 90m below ground level."
Stockton further mentioned that these results align well with previous surface sampling and underground mapping observations, indicating a fruitful path ahead for continued geological evaluation and modeling.
Strategic Importance of Antimony
Antimony has been flagged as a critical mineral by the U.S. government due to its limited domestic production. The Desert Antimony Mine presents a unique opportunity to establish a premium source of antimony in the U.S., which aligns with national security interests and the supply chains necessary for defense and advanced materials sectors.
Locksley Resources maintains its focus on securing critical minerals within the United States, particularly through their
Mojave Project in California. This project is aimed at targeting rare earth elements (REEs) alongside antimony.
Aiming for Domestic Supply Chains
Locksley's approach to mining involves an innovative
mine-to-market strategy specifically designed for antimony. The company is actively working to reinstate domestic supply chains for these critical materials, backed by strategic partnerships with leading academic institutions and industry leaders in the U.S.
With an emphasis on novel processing techniques and separation technologies, Locksley Resources is establishing a strong foothold in advancing the nation's critical materials independence. Their proactive strategy and successful drilling results could pave the way for a sustainable mining cycle in the future.
