Arclin and BSST Revolutionize Bomb Disposal with New EOD Suit
In a significant advancement in personal protective equipment, Arclin, a leading materials science company, has announced its collaboration with BSST, a manufacturer specializing in bomb suits and ballistic vests. The duo has developed an innovative Explosive Neutralization Suit (NEDEX), integrating cutting-edge Kevlar® EXO™ aramid fiber technology. Designed to support bomb disposal operations in some of the world's most challenging environments, this next-generation suit combines advanced blast protection with a lighter design, enhancing mobility, endurance, and overall operational performance.
Reducing Weight Without Compromising Protection
Weighing approximately 30 kg (66 pounds), the new EOD suit is about 15% lighter than many traditional NEDEX models, which can weigh over 35 kg (77 pounds). This weight reduction directly contributes to the comfort of the operator and their maneuverability during extended missions, all while maintaining the high level of protection required to face explosive threats. Steven LaGanke, Arclin's Global Director for the Defense segment, emphasized, "Bomb disposal professionals operate in environments where every decision matters, and every kilogram affects their performance. Our collaboration with BSST illustrates how innovations in materials science can transform individual protection solutions into lighter, more maneuverable gear, better suited to the evolving needs of today’s security and defense professionals."
The Kevlar® EXO™ CoreMatrix™ technology is specifically engineered to push the limits of fragment protection, paving the way for the future of explosive ordnance disposal gear. By selecting Kevlar® EXO™, BSST aims to identify state-of-the-art materials that provide enhanced performance for modern NEDEX operations. BSST's technical team has leveraged extensive expertise in bomb suit engineering and protective technology to develop this groundbreaking solution.
A Milestone in Explosive Protection
Heiko Baumann, the Technical Director of R&D at BSST, remarked, "This launch marks a significant milestone in the evolution of explosive threat protection. By combining our design expertise in bomb suits with the leading performance of Kevlar® EXO™, we have developed a solution that addresses one of the industry's most persistent challenges—reducing weight while ensuring the protection levels operators depend on. We are proud to present this innovation to the global defense and security community."
The advanced EOD suit is poised for international deployment and is currently being marketed across key markets in Europe and Asia. Both Arclin and BSST will showcase this revolutionary suit at the Eurosatory 2026 exhibition, taking place from June 15 to 19 at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition center in France. Visitors can learn more about Kevlar® EXO™ and the technologies that are shaping the future of personal protection by visiting Arclin's booth H319 in Hall 5.
