Midlife Monologues™ Charleston: A Powerful Movement for Women's Voices Across Generations

Midlife Monologues™: A Transformative Experience for Women

Charleston, S.C. - The groundbreaking event, Midlife Monologues™, is set to dazzle audiences once more as it presents its third showcase on March 12. This multi-genre ensemble combines the talents of authors, actors, and artists to illuminate the multifaceted experiences of women across generations. With a formidable aim to inspire dialogue and connection, the event promises to touch the lives of 1,000 women attending at the Charleston Music Hall, while many more can join through a nationwide livestream.

Hosted by the creative minds behind PURE Theatre and supported by Buxton Books, this year's performance is sponsored by Alloy Women's Health and will kick off with a livestream event at 7 PM EST. This offers a unique opportunity for women everywhere to engage with the stories that reflect their own lives, strengthening a sense of community amidst shared experiences.

Inspired by the motto of memoirist Patricia Hampl, "You tell me your story, and somehow, I get mine," the Midlife Monologues event is designed to encourage women to face life's challenges—like uncertainty, grief, and new beginnings. The performances serve as both a play and a pep-rally, promoting empowerment, self-compassion, and a supportive community.

A Diverse and Acclaimed Cast

The line-up for the Charleston show features several notable cast members excited to lend their voices to the narratives being shared. Among them is Shanola Hampton, who has captivated audiences as a star of the NBC drama Found and the Showtime hit Shameless. Dr. Tonya Maria Matthews, a global leader and the CEO of the International African American Museum, and Margaret Anne Florence, an accomplished actor and College of Charleston graduate, also join the event.

They will be joined by Melissa Faliveno, author of Tomboyland, and humorist Deena Lang, further enriching the cast's dynamic. Returning as the emcee is Carolyn Murray, an award-winning anchor and advocate for women's health.

In addition to these new members, the esteemed ensemble includes Kate Baer, Mary Laura Philpott, Tara Stringfellow, and many others, creating a rich tapestry of voices that resonate across various stages of womanhood. Their stories are spread across diverse platforms, reflecting the rich cultural landscape of Charleston—a southern hub of literature and creativity.

Key Partnerships and Social Impact

The event's social impact is profound, as proceeds will benefit several organizations focused on mental health and wellness. Specifically, adolescent mental health initiatives will support The Jed Foundation, while maternal mental health organizations such as Postpartum Support Charleston and Mugs for Moms receive assistance. The exchange also aims to raise awareness of menopause through Menopause Mandate US, which is led by high-profile advocate Naomi Watts.

As Kerri Devine, the producer and founder of the Midlife Monologues community, emphasizes, "My goal has always been to help women feel seen and supported in their life's journey." The stories shared during this event will highlight the intricate beauty of midlife experiences and the potential for renewal and growth amidst life's challenges.

Join the Movement

Communities advocating for women’s stories—including Never Empty Nest, The Memory Circle, and Morph Mom—will also participate in the livestream, connecting with participants across the nation. This intergenerational dialogue fosters solidarity and encourages women of all ages to confront their narratives with compassion and strength.
