Thematic Statement

On one spring day, the artists gathered in Sumida Park, sharing rice balls they each prepared. This annual event is a rite where new students at the lab create the 'ultimate rice ball.' The process is intricate, starting from choosing rice, cooking it, and eventually forming the rice ball. It requires balancing pressure while shaping and selecting ingredients, illustrating that each component serves not as the centerpiece but as a foundation that allows the rice to shine.

Participating in this project has helped us realize that while creating, words may fall short in describing the complex process of making art. The moments spent correcting drawn lines and all the hesitations encapsulate the essence of creation, known as 'drawing.' The practice of making is intertwined with observing the world, measuring distances, and remaining open to unexpected experiences.

The exhibition goes beyond showcasing finalized lines—it captures the trace of time spent in connection with the world as an essential part of the artistic journey. Each piece exhibited is a testament to the ongoing dialogue between the artist and their environment.
