Okayama University Takes Center Stage in Global Climate Education
In June 2026, a key international conference named the
Global Sustainable Development Congress 2026 convened in Jakarta, Indonesia, attracting over
3,000 participants from various sectors, including academia, government, and civil society. Among the distinguished attendees was
Atsufumi Yokoi, Vice President for Global Engagement at Okayama University, who represented the university in a roundtable session organized by the
United Nations University and
UNESCO.
Focus on Climate Change Education
The session titled
“From Frameworks to Action: Preparing Climate-Ready Teachers” aimed to discuss the
Climate Change Competency Framework for Educators (C3FE), which the UNU-IAS is developing to enhance climate education globally. This framework seeks to equip educators with the necessary skills and frameworks to address climate change effectively in their teaching practices.
Vice President Yokoi took on the role of facilitator at one of the five discussion stations, presenting methods for supporting proactive engagement in climate actions.
