Emirates GBR Clinches Second Consecutive Victory in SailGP Impact League 2025

In a stellar display of maritime prowess and community impact, the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team has emerged victorious in the highly competitive 2025 SailGP Impact League for the second consecutive year. Announced on December 4, this achievement showcases not only the team's sailing skills but also their dedication to making meaningful contributions both on and off the water.

The Impact League is a progressive championship that honors teams for their positive activities, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and social responsibility in the world of competitive sailing. This year, a total of 48 projects were submitted by various teams, evaluated by an esteemed panel of 20 judges over 114 hours of meticulous assessment. The results highlighted the Emirates GBR team's commitment to environmental initiatives and youth engagement, solidifying their position as leaders in the sport.

One of the standout achievements of the Emirates GBR Team was the expansion of its youth development program. This initiative not only empowered young athletes but also facilitated a full-time position for the talented sailor Kai Hockley within Emirates GBR, providing a pathway for future generations to excel in sailing. The team also made significant strides in waste reduction by rebranding and repurposing existing equipment, thereby promoting a culture of sustainability among their peers.

In partnership with Goodwall, Emirates GBR engaged approximately 250,000 young individuals in climate education efforts. Additionally, they ensured that their SailGP events were powered by clean energy in collaboration with their purpose partner, Low Carbon, utilizing portable solar technologies to reduce their carbon footprint further. This steadfast dedication to environmental stewardship is essential in setting an example for other teams and industries.

Sir Ben Ainslie, the CEO and co-owner of Emirates GBR, expressed immense pride in the team's accomplishments. He remarked, "We have extended our partnership with the Greig City Academy in North London to encourage more young people to get involved in the maritime industry. Our Foiling Academies in Weymouth and collaborations with Goodwall and the 1851 Trust have allowed us to provide STEM education and climate awareness programs, making a tangible difference in our communities."

The competition was intense, with Mubadala Brazil finishing in second place. Their efforts were spearheaded by the trailblazing Martine Grael, the first female pilot in the Rolex SailGP Championship. The Brazilian team's initiatives, aimed at restoring Pombeba Island in the Guanabara Bay and raising climate adaptation awareness in the city's favelas, earned them recognition, including the Breaking Boundaries award for their women-led offshore leadership team and the establishment of a clinic for female sailors.

NorthStar Canada rounded out the top three by excelling in three out of four focus areas, notably winning the Climate Action category by collaborating with local sailors and scientists to plant 2,000 seagrass sprouts south of Halifax.

Fiona Morgan, Chief Purpose Officer of SailGP, praised the Emirates GBR Team, stating, "What a success for the Emirates Great Britain Team, which has won the Impact League for the second time in a row—a remarkable demonstration of the team's long-term commitment and passion for driving meaningful change."

With the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix set to take place on November 29 and 30, Emirates GBR stands in a prime position as the season finale approaches. The top teams will come together for a single showdown where the stakes are high; the eventual winner will not only be crowned champion but also compete for the sport's highest prize of $2 million.
