KAILAS Marks 20 Years of Mountain Adventure in Chengdu, Celebrating Exploration and Climbing Progress
On August 7, 2026, KAILAS celebrated a significant milestone: the 20th anniversary of its Mountain Adventure Project. This event took place at Chengdu MixC and brought together a notable gathering of climbers who have contributed to the sphere of mountaineering in China. Among those present were notable names such as Jon Otto, Li Zongli, Liu Junfu, Zhou Song, Zhang Qingwei "Yeren," and Alan Rousseau. Launched in 2006, the Mountain Adventure Project has been pivotal in assisting climbers to venture into unexplored peaks, innovate new routes, and document firsthand mountaineering experiences. Over the span of 20 years, this initiative has prominently observed the evolution of Chinese mountaineering. It chronicles a transition from merely learning established paths to boldly creating new trails and exploring previously unknown terrains.
One of the highlights of the event was the focus on Yaomei Peak, the highest point of Mount Siguniang. This peak represents a lineage of climbers, showcasing both historical ascents and new routes that emphasize the pursuit of adventure across different generations on the same mountain.
