Covation Biomaterials' Exciting New Launch at Chinaplas 2025
In an impressive showcase of innovation, Covation Biomaterials LLC (known as CovationBio®) has announced the launch of its latest offering—BioPTMEG—at the highly anticipated Chinaplas 2025 event. This cutting-edge product represents a pivotal addition to the biobased material industry, providing an advanced and sustainable option for polytetramethyleneglycol (PTMEG), designed to deliver superior performance while significantly reducing environmental impact.
BioPTMEG positions itself as a biobased alternative to conventional petroleum-derived PTMEG, addressing the urgent need for sustainable materials in various high-performance applications such as elastane and thermoplastic elastomers. With BioPTMEG, CovationBio aims to assist customers in mitigating their reliance on non-renewable resources without compromising the durability and elasticity vital for demanding materials.
Key Sustainability Benefits of BioPTMEG
1.
Massive Reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions: BioPTMEG is built on renewable resources, offering a considerable decrease in carbon emissions compared to fossil fuels.
2.
100% Biobased Composition: Sourced entirely from annually renewable resources ensures a smaller ecological footprint.
3.
Utilization of Non-Food Raw Materials: Key ingredients, such as corn stover, are selected to ensure they do not compete with essential food supplies.
4.
Reduced Dependence on Non-Renewable Fossil Fuels: The switch to biobased materials decreases the industry's reliance on traditional fossil energy sources.
5.
Drop-in Performance: One of the standout features of BioPTMEG is its 'drop-in' capability, allowing manufacturers to transition to biobased materials without significant changes to their current processes.
Dr. Feifeng You, Chair of CovationBio, articulated the company's vision: "Our objective is to foster a sustainable, decarbonized materials industry. We are excited to introduce CovationBio® bioPTMEG, which utilizes carbon absorbed by plants to create innovative materials, thereby enhancing quality of life. We are committed to scaling up production to minimize our carbon footprint as part of our duty to future generations. We invite all stakeholders to collaborate with us in creating a greener, cleaner, and more prosperous world."
With BioPTMEG being a direct substitute, manufacturers can easily integrate this innovative material into existing production lines without the need for extensive product development or modification.
Future Developments
The company has plans for a new facility in Jiangsu Province's Qidong region, which is expected to reach mechanical completion by the end of 2025. Commercial production of BioPTMEG is projected to begin in the first quarter of 2026.
Visitors to Chinaplas 2025, scheduled from April 15-18, will have the chance to visit CovationBio's booth in Hall 20, Stand H21, where the focus will be on showcasing how BioPTMEG can be integrated into customer materials while enhancing sustainability strategies in line with this year’s theme of “Transformation, Collaboration, and Sustainability.”
On the media day, April 14, 2025, Dr. Mosha Zhao, Global Marketing Director for the C4 Platform, and Dr. Dan Slanac, Global Technology Director at CovationBio, will present the first official introduction of BioPTMEG, elaborating on CovationBio's global commitment to sustainability and the implications of this new technology.
