YKK AP Collaborates on Workshops to Improve Student Housing Comfort in Hiroshima

Enhancing Student Comfort through Innovative Insulation



In an effort to address the harsh climate conditions faced by high school students at the Hiroshima Prefectural Kake High School, YKK AP Corporation has undertaken a unique initiative. Collaborating with local organizations including the Kitahiroshima Public Health Promotion Council and the Hiroshima Center for Global Warming Prevention, YKK AP participated in workshops focused on improving the insulation of the boys' dormitory at the school.

The dormitory, located in the snowy and cold region of Kitahiroshima Town, faces a dual challenge during the summer and winter months. With summer temperatures soaring up to 38.7°C (100°F) and winters plagued by extreme cold and heavy snowfall, students often find themselves in uncomfortable living conditions. The lack of insulation in the old school building has led to issues such as the infiltration of insects during warmer months and frozen laundry in the winter, creating a challenging environment for students.

To combat these challenges, the workshop held on August 28 aimed not only to install insulation but also to serve as a learning opportunity. Participants included 21 students from the dormitory, who worked alongside volunteers from local construction companies to install insulation materials and interior window frames—key components of the insulation upgrade known as
