Michael Crawford Appointed CEO of Baillie Lodges to Lead Growth Strategy

Michael Crawford Takes the Helm as CEO of Baillie Lodges

On April 10, 2025, Baillie Lodges, an Australia-based luxury hotel organization, announced the appointment of seasoned hospitality executive Michael Crawford as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective May 19, 2025. Crawford succeeds Michael Moret-Lalli, the former Executive Chairman, who will now concentrate on the firm's business development and global expansion as the Head of Global M&A and Development.

Crawford's extensive experience spans decades in various roles within prominent hospitality companies. Before joining Baillie Lodges, he served as Chairman, President, and CEO of the Hall of Fame Resort & Entertainment Company since 2018. There, he expanded their portfolio significantly, overseeing the company’s public offerings in July 2020 and advancing its lodging, media, and gaming sectors. Crawford's career also includes a tenure at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, where he contributed as Global President of Portfolio Management, alongside 25 years at The Walt Disney Company, holding diverse positions across the globe.

“My excitement to join Baillie Lodges stems from its extraordinary portfolio of iconic lodges and unique travel experiences,” noted Crawford. “Working alongside a talented team that shares my passion for delivering memorable stays is something I truly look forward to. I am committed to elevating our guest offerings, focusing on crafting life-enriching experiences that highlight cultural immersion and genuine connection.”

Baillie Lodges has seen expedited growth since a partnership with KSL Capital Partners in 2019. The investment facilitated their expansion from four lodges in Australia to nine locations across Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Chile, signifying the company's ambition in the high-end travel market. With Crawford's leadership, Baillie Lodges aims to deepen its commitment to growth, exploring new destinations and travel verticals.

During Michael Lalli's tenure, the company completed four acquisitions including the expansion into multi-lodged Tierra Hotels in Chile, and invested over USD 100 million into transformative projects, showcasing resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lalli spearheaded the restoration of Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island, which was devastated by a bushfire in 2020.

According to Kirk Adamson, a KSL partner, “This is an exciting chapter for Baillie Lodges as it aggressively pursues strategic growth. Michael Crawford’s remarkable expertise in operations and his proven ability to enhance renowned brands make him a perfect fit. I also wish to express gratitude to Michael Lalli for his outstanding leadership and look forward to our collaborative efforts in his new role.”

In 2025, Baillie Lodges is set to welcome back two lodges that have undergone significant renovations. Huka Lodge in New Zealand resumed operations on March 1, while Tierra Atacama in Chile reopened on April 1, both enhancing the luxury experience guests can expect.
