Newark's Exciting New Initiative: Experience Local Festivals and Flavors This Summer

This summer, the City of Newark is embracing its rich cultural landscape with a vibrant new initiative called 'Experience Newark.' Launched in collaboration with Newark Alliance and Invest Newark, the program aims to draw both residents and visitors to the city’s energetic festival scene while highlighting the diverse culinary offerings that Newark has to offer.

The 'Experience Newark' program is strategically structured around major cultural events such as the Prudential North to Shore Festival. Attendees can expect themed itineraries that pair exciting performances and events with nearby restaurant specials, ensuring a comprehensive experience of what downtown Newark has to offer. Mayor Baraka sums it up perfectly, stating that this initiative provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase the city’s vibrancy and warmth, encouraging people to enjoy its world-class venues and global cuisine.

In addition to the live events, participants can take advantage of a mobile digital passport, available for use during the entire summer season. This unique feature allows users to check in to various local bars and restaurants, unlocking exclusive deals, discounts, and rewards. The passport can be easily accessed online at the Newark Happening website and via QR codes throughout the city, guiding guests through delightful culinary districts, including the Arts and Education District, Halsey Street corridor, and Ironbound.

With over 20 local businesses joining in the effort, from cozy coffee spots to upscale dining and craft cocktail bars, 'Experience Newark' aims to support Newark’s growing base of restaurants, many of which are locally owned. Participants can find diverse eateries like The Yard, Black Swan Espresso, and Taste of the Caribbean Restaurant, all eager to attract patrons exploring the city’s cultural events throughout the summer.

Ashley Mays, Chief Marketing Officer of Newark Alliance, reflects on the broader vision behind 'Experience Newark.' She emphasizes the initiative’s role in creating long-term visibility for Newark as a must-visit city, linking hospitality with significant cultural moments. This not only enriches the experience for visitors but also generates economic growth and positive exposure for local businesses.

CEO of Invest Newark, Marcus Randolph, further adds that the initiative connects visitors and residents with the many restaurants and businesses the city has to offer, enhancing their overall experience during major events. This activation is seen as a key opportunity for local entrepreneurs to shine in the spotlight as they showcase their unique offerings.

John Schreiber, President and CEO of NJPAC, advocates for vibrant city experiences, remarking that the program aims to encourage those visiting for performances to explore Newark’s neighborhoods and appreciate its rich cultural tapestry, including galleries and restaurants.

To make the experience even more engaging, 'Experience Newark' will provide on-site ambassadors during major events, stationed at strategic points near venues like Prudential Center. These ambassadors will offer information, recommendations, and even guided walking tours that connect guests not just with significant cultural landmarks but also to acclaimed restaurants and bars.

This summer, Newark’s 'Experience Newark' initiative promises to excite visitors and residents alike by not only presenting a line-up of spectacular events but also ensuring they savor the city’s culinary delights. From unique dining experiences to festive celebrations, the program is set to create lasting memories while nurturing the local economy and reinforcing Newark’s reputation as a dynamic, welcoming destination.
