New Study Highlights Pycnogenol® for Cellulite Reduction in Women
A double-blind, placebo-controlled study has uncovered remarkable results regarding the effectiveness of Pycnogenol®, the natural extract derived from French maritime pine bark, in alleviating the common skin condition known as cellulite. This condition affects up to 90% of women and is often linked to changes in dermal structure and vascular changes beneath the skin. The research, recently published in
Phytomedicine Plus, evaluated the impact of this powerful antioxidant over a 12-week period involving 60 participants aged 25 to 45.
The participants were divided into two groups: one group received a daily dosage of 150 mg of Pycnogenol® (50 mg in the morning and 100 mg in the evening), while the control group was given a placebo. Throughout the study, the severity of cellulite was assessed at baseline and after 4, 8, and 12 weeks using the Hexsel Cellulite Severity Scale, which measures key characteristics of cellulite such as skin depressions and surface alterations.
Results of the Study
The outcomes of the study were promising. After eight weeks of supplementation, the group taking Pycnogenol® exhibited a 12.2% reduction in cellulite severity. This number improved to an impressive total reduction of 13.6% by the end of the 12-week trial. Remarkably, the placebo group showed no significant improvement, highlighting the efficacy of Pycnogenol® in combating cellulite.
In addition to reducing cellulite severity, participants in the Pycnogenol® group saw a substantial reduction of 2.07 cm in upper thigh circumference compared to only 0.9 cm in the placebo group, demonstrating a significant enhancement in body contours. Furthermore, skin roughness on the outer thigh decreased by 32% among those taking Pycnogenol®, while the placebo group only observed a 6% reduction. Lastly, improvements in skin smoothness were also noted, with an 11.19% enhancement in the Pycnogenol® group versus a 6.82% increase in the placebo group.
Dr. Fred Pescatore, a well-known natural physician and one of the study’s authors, emphasized the relevance of these findings, stating, “While cellulite is often frustrating for women, it doesn’t have to diminish confidence. Pycnogenol® offers a natural, clinically-proven approach to improving skin health.” The sentiment regarding wellness and beauty was echoed by Danielle Lin, a lifestyle radio host and long-time advocate for Pycnogenol®, who noted that the extract not only enhances skin appearance but intertwines inner health with visible results.
