New Horizons in Biocircular Chemistry by Ascend
Ascend Performance Materials, a leading provider of high-performance materials, proudly announced its recent achievements in biocircular chemical production. The company now successfully manufactures key components such as acrylonitrile, hexamethylenediamine, adipic acid, and nylon 6,6 derived from used cooking oil. This innovation marks a significant milestone in Ascend's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
A Sustainable Shift
The novel nylon 6,6 created through this innovative process boasts a 25% lower carbon footprint compared to traditional nylon, which is typically derived from fossil fuels. This breakthrough reflects Ascend's commitment to creating sustainable solutions while maintaining high performance and quality standards.
Using a mass balance approach certified by ISCC Plus, Ascend can scale up this green production method without compromising the reliability and effectiveness that its clients expect. All production facilities within the United States are ISCC Plus certified, enabling the handling of biobased, circular, and biocircular materials.
Meeting Client Demand
Alex Mihut, Vice President of Performance Chemicals at Ascend, highlighted the company's focus on addressing customer challenges through technical solutions. By leveraging the mass balance approach, Ascend is well-positioned to fulfill the growing market demand for sustainable materials while delivering consistent results.
In tandem with Ascend’s initiative to reduce its scope 1 and 2 emissions, the Bioserve product line now holds one of the lowest carbon footprints available for industrially manufactured nylon 6,6 and its precursors.
Operating Without Compromises
Chris Johnson, Senior Sustainability Director at Ascend, emphasized that part of their sustainability strategy, dubbed 'Operate Without Compromises', centers on delivering comprehensive solutions that accommodate customer needs and assist them in reaching their sustainability goals. This initiative not only benefits the environment but also strengthens the relationships with clients who share similar values.
Recently, the company released its 2023 Sustainability Report, showcasing the progress made towards achieving its Vision 2030 objectives, reinforcing its role as a pioneer in sustainable chemical production.
