Okayama University Hosts 'CLT Learning Course 2025'
On November 8, 2025, the Okayama University Green Innovation Center, in partnership with the Japan CLT Association, successfully conducted the 'CLT Learning Course 2025' aimed at educating participants on Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) technology. This event attracted a diverse group of around 45 attendees, primarily practitioners in the architecture field and university students studying architecture.
The course began with a presentation from Professor Hiroshi Ikuta of Kyoto University. He provided insights into the specifications and standards related to CLT panel methods, setting the stage for further discussions and learning throughout the day. Following his presentation, Professor Koji Fukumoto from Kinki University shared innovative applications of CLT through his lecture titled 'New Uses of CLT,' showcasing recent examples of mid-sized CLT wooden construction projects.
To wrap up the event, Yosuke Komiyama, a lecturer at the Graduate School of Kyoto University, presented on domestic and international trends related to CLT applications. His talk encompassed a variety of CLT constructions from around the world, highlighting the versatility and potential of this sustainable building material.
Participants expressed their appreciation of the course, noting feedback such as, 'I gained the latest knowledge regarding the technical standards of the CLT method,' and 'I learned about various applications of CLT.' These comments reflect the course's success in meeting its objective to educate and inspire those interested in implementing CLT technologies in their architectural practices.
