According to the survey, an overwhelming 93% of the legal professionals surveyed acknowledged a strong potential for profitability in their firms. However, a significant 44% identified administrative tasks and excessive manual work as primary obstacles hindering their profit margins.

A surprising 42% of participants reported spending between two to five hours each day on such administrative assignments, with 6% even admitting to dedicating more than five hours. This excessive workload not only detracts from billable hours but also creates a backlog of work that can lead to client dissatisfaction and financial loss.

To combat these issues, 43% of respondents believe that investment in automation technologies to streamline repetitive workflows is vital for increasing profitability. Moreover, when questioned about where artificial intelligence (AI) could make the most significant impact, 42% of the legal professionals pointed towards document review and analysis as areas ripe for improvement.

Regional Insights

Examining the data more closely reveals that firms located in the United States and Canada have the highest emphasis on profitability. However, they also grapple with managing multiple technology platforms, with 21% of respondents using five or more different platforms daily. Despite the complexity of their technology environments, over half (58%) of these respondents noted that their technology systems are mostly integrated, utilizing various add-ons to enhance functionality.

Interestingly, the U.S. and Canada also reported the largest number of mostly office-based workers, with 45% indicating that their teams primarily work from physical locations. Furthermore, nearly a third (29%) of these professionals identified client communication and correspondence as a key area for AI application, underlining the need for technological advancements in enhancing client interactions.
