YKK AP Opens Its First In-House Nursery Facility for Employees in Tohoku

YKK AP Unveils Its First In-House Nursery

YKK AP Corporation, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has recently celebrated the opening of its inaugural corporate nursery, 'Aoi Tori Nursery', at its Tohoku manufacturing plant located in Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. The ceremony took place with numerous stakeholders in attendance, marking a significant step towards supporting employees who are navigating the challenges of parenthood.

Opening its doors on April 1st, the 'Aoi Tori Nursery' is uniquely designed for employees of the YKK AP Group, aiming to facilitate smoother transitions back to work following parental leave while promoting a healthy work-life balance. The name, 'Aoi Tori', draws inspiration from the company's purpose of making society happier through Architectural Products, showcasing a bluebird—a symbol of happiness—and underscoring the positive impact this nursery aims to have on children’s happiness and development.

Concept and Design

The architectural concept of the daycare focuses on 'nature harmonization throughout the seasons'. The building's L-shaped configuration enhances both sunlight exposure and wind protection while also considering energy efficiency. Inside, facilities include flexible childcare rooms with movable partitions, various activity spaces, a kitchen for onsite meal preparation, and a playground fitted with artificial turf.

Moreover, the nursery utilizes YKK AP's own advanced products such as the 'APW 430' and 'APW 330' resin windows, along with the 'Venato' and 'Concord' entrance doors, ensuring superior insulation and earthquake resistance ratings equivalent to grade 7. The facility also features specially designed interior fixtures to minimize the risk of injuries and implements robust security measures like surveillance cameras and privacy fences, creating a safe and comfortable environment for children.

Commitment to Childcare and Community

From an operational perspective, the nursery prioritizes child safety, alleviating the stress of working parents, and fostering connections among parents and stakeholders. The implementation of comprehensive security protocols, allergen-free meal options, care for sick children, and hands-free drop-off solutions are part of the nursery's offerings. Additionally, it plans to host workplace visits and events that encourage parent involvement, ensuring that the nursery functions as a community-centered facility.

YKK AP remains committed to listening to employee feedback, striving to cultivate a vibrant workplace where individuals can thrive. The company also emphasizes diversity and inclusion initiatives, aiming to create an environment conducive to the growth of its employees and the families they support.
