SINEXCEL's Energy Storage Revolution in Guangyuan
SINEXCEL, a key player in energy storage solutions, has marked a significant milestone by successfully connecting a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of
107.12 MW/428.48 MWh in
Guangyuan, Sichuan Province, China. This innovative project aims to support
Zhongfu Industrial, a major aluminum manufacturing company, in its quest to reduce energy costs and enhance production efficiencies by addressing the energy consumption challenges inherent in aluminum electrolysis.
Tackling the Energy Demands of Aluminum Production
The primary aluminum production process is notoriously energy-intensive, requiring between
13 and 15 MWh for every ton of aluminum produced. Electricity can account for up to
40% of the total production costs. Moreover, unexpected power outages can lead to critical losses, sometimes reaching millions of yuan due to the solidification of electrolytes. To mitigate these risks, the newly implemented
BESS serves as a buffer, storing energy during off-peak hours when electricity prices are lower and discharging this stored energy during peak tariff periods.
As a result,
Zhongfu Industrial is projected to save approximately
140 yuan per ton of aluminum, leading to estimated annual savings exceeding
60 million yuan. Additionally, the project is anticipated to lower carbon dioxide emissions by about
52,000 tons annually, underscoring its positive environmental impact.
Role of SINEXCEL’s 1725-kW PCS Units
The heart of this project consists of
104 SINEXCEL 1725-kW PCS (Power Conversion Systems) units, integrated within an efficient
DC-coupled architecture alongside 5-MWh battery containers. To extend their lifespan, these units operate at a reduced capacity amidst challenging industrial conditions. Featuring rapid response times of milliseconds, they ensure seamless backup power during grid anomalies, thus preventing costly production downtimes.
Moreover, the system's peak efficiency reaches an impressive
98.5%, which translates into considerable long-term energy savings. It is also designed with an
IP54 rating, providing protection against dust in harsh melting environments and reducing wear and tear compared to conventional systems.
Global Certification and Impact
The
1725-kW-PCS is fully certified for European markets under CE, VDE-4110/4120, and EN-50549 standards, along with compliance certifications required in regions such as the USA, Australia, Japan, and Thailand. With cumulative global deliveries exceeding
1 GW, this project exemplifies SINEXCEL's commitment to empowering energy supply and industrial endeavors worldwide.
Leading the Green Transformation
SINEXCEL's projects, including this groundbreaking installation in Guangyuan, highlight their adaptability and commitment to sustainability—from integrating the largest wind-storage system in Latvia to projects across over
60 countries with an installed capacity surpassing
17 GW/50 GWh. Established in 2007, SINEXCEL has emerged as a pioneer in energy storage solutions, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and power quality management, continuing to partner with industry leaders to facilitate energy independence and efficiency.
