Egao Mirai Project: Nurturing Children's Smiles in Nagasaki
MetLife Life Insurance Co., under the leadership of CEO Dirk Osteen, has partnered with the Nagasaki International Television and Shinnwa Bank to continue its essential initiative, the Egao Mirai Project, dedicated to fostering smiles among children in Nagasaki Prefecture. Having successfully launched the project last year, the team is excited to roll it out for a second time in hopes of enriching the experiences of local youth.
An Overview of the Project
The Egao Mirai Project has a central theme focused on cultivating joy among the young, encouraging engagement through various activities. This year, they aim to share moments of fun and learning while providing children with opportunities to connect with others. Among the project's highlights are the support for children's cafeterias, sports initiatives, and the career education event named 'Kodomo Job Challenge'. These ventures are designed to offer valuable learning experiences and enjoyable interactions.
One standout element of the project is the portable event 'Odekake Suruyo! Kodomo Dejima Hakku.' After hosting a large outdoor festival in Nagasaki City during the Golden Week in May, they have innovatively adapted the large-scale play equipment for island communities, thus bringing joyful experiences directly to children who may not have had access to such entertainment otherwise.
Engaging the Community
As part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, MetLife's philosophy is aimed at securing brighter futures for children. Beyond the Egao Mirai Project, they are engaged in multiple initiatives aimed at nurturing the next generation and supporting those in challenging circumstances to foster self-sufficiency in the future.
1.
Financial Education for Kids: The 'Important Money Talks' program teaches children the significance of money management, empowering them to make informed decisions and actions as they grow.
2.
Connecting with Chopsticks Project: This initiative promotes environmental consideration and child support, where employees create handmade chopsticks donated to children's homes, cafeterias, and facilities for seniors across the nation.
3.
Delivering Music to Children Project: In collaboration with the 'One Million Classic Live' initiative, this project seeks to provide children with an enriching experience through music, enhancing their mental well-being and creativity.
4.
Waffle Camp in Nagasaki: Teaming up with the local government, this initiative offers high school students a chance to create a website in a one-day workshop, exposing them to valuable IT skills and career insights.
Looking Ahead
MetLife remains committed to delivering positive impacts, not only in Nagasaki but also across various regions, ensuring that more children can have access to opportunities that lead to brighter futures. By fostering sustainable communities, they aim to contribute to a society where everyone can lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
