RevRiv: A Creative Movement Helping Noto Peninsula
In a remarkable effort to rejuvenate the Noto Peninsula following the devastating earthquake of 2024, a local startup,
Mutubi, has joined forces with
Granpharma, a major pharmacy chain in Ishikawa Prefecture that operates
Aozora Pharmacy. Founded with the mission of improving conditions in both affected and unaffected areas, Mutubi is embarking on an ambitious project dubbed
RevRiv, short for
Reverse of Rivers. This initiative aims to reverse the trend of youth outmigration from the area by actively engaging young creators in disaster recovery and community revitalization efforts.
The Birth of RevRiv
Mutubi was established just four months after the seismic incident, driven by a desire to create sustainable solutions that contribute to the recovery of Noto. The organization emphasizes nurturing young talent through engagement in volunteer activities and educational initiatives focusing on disaster awareness and community empowerment. So far, they have cultivated a network of young people—high school and university students who have taken it upon themselves to visit Noto and contribute their skills and creativity to rebuild the community.
Engaging Young Creators
RevRiv comprises a vibrant collective of young creative minds dedicated to the region's revival. Some members have chosen to take a leave of absence from university to immerse themselves in the community for six months to a year. This hands-on approach allows them to develop projects relevant to local needs, particularly those faced by local businesses and organizations in areas like disaster preparedness and the preservation of historical narratives.
This winter, a collective training camp will be held with the theme
