Hormel Foods' Commitment to Fighting Hunger
In a remarkable display of corporate responsibility, Hormel Foods Corporation has announced a generous donation of $332,000 to various hunger-relief organizations throughout September's Hunger Action Month. This significant contribution aims to combat food insecurity in communities across the United States where Hormel operates its production facilities.
Local teams in over 40 communities received unwavering support from the Hormel Foods Charitable Trust, enabling them to direct funds to local nonprofits actively working to alleviate hunger. Each U.S. production facility received $10,000, demonstrating the company's commitment to addressing the pressing issue of food scarcity within their neighborhoods.
An Urgent Need for Support
Food banks and hunger-relief organizations have been operating under immense pressure due to a drastic increase in demand across the country. Hunger Action Month serves not only as a reminder of this urgent issue but also as a call to action for corporations like Hormel Foods to join in alleviating this burden. Will Bonifant, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Hormel Foods, emphasized the importance of local organizations in meeting the needs of food-insecure families:
"Food insecurity affects families in every region of the country, and local organizations are often on the front lines of meeting that need. As a global branded food company, we're proud to support organizations making a difference in the communities where our team members live and work."
Impact Across the Nation
The funds will support various initiatives, including food pantries, community meal programs, and other hunger-relief nonprofits. Notable organizations that will benefit include the Second Harvest Food Pantry in Beloit, the Knoxville Senior Center, Channel One Regional Food Bank, and the Foodbank of Somerset County in New Jersey.
Joe Muzik, the plant manager in Austin, Minnesota, shared his pride in contributing to local organizations, noting:
"Hunger affects every community, including our own. Our team members are proud to support local organizations working to ensure families have reliable access to food. Investing in our neighbors is one of the most meaningful ways we can strengthen the community we call home."
Since the onset of the pandemic in 2020, Hormel Foods has donated over $53.6 million in cash and product donations to food security efforts. This includes partnerships with various national nonprofit organizations such as Convoy of Hope and Feeding America, which work tirelessly to provide hunger relief, even during catastrophic disasters.
