The Evolving Role of Soundproof Houses: From Music to Multimedia and Workspaces

The Evolving Role of Soundproof Homes

In a recent survey conducted by LIVLAN Inc., headquartered in Itabashi, Tokyo, the necessity and purpose of soundproof housing have dramatically evolved. Focused on various age groups from 20s to 60s, the survey was conducted in June 2026 and included 600 participants across Japan. The results reveal that while the primary use of soundproof homes remains for music performance, there is an increasing demand for spaces suitable for video streaming, gaming, and remote work.

Shift in Application

Historically, soundproof residences were mainly aimed at musicians desiring to practice without disturbing neighbors. However, due to the pandemic, a new paradigm has emerged where these homes support a variety of activities. The shift is significant; soundproof homes have transitioned from being mere sanctuaries for musical pursuits to becoming versatile environments that accommodate work, creativity, and leisure.

Survey Findings: Broadening Use Cases

The survey indicates that musicians still make up 56.49% of soundproof housing needs, yet the demand for spaces suited for video content creation and remote work has surged. The pandemic has accelerated this trend, resulting in a rise in inquiries regarding video streaming (32.49%), gaming (32.49%), and remote work/Web conferencing (39%). This trend reflects the changing lifestyle as more people enjoy working or creating from home.

Changing Attitudes Post-Pandemic

Post-COVID-19, the role of soundproof houses has diversified. Previously valued solely for music practice, these residences now cater to a broader array of activities. The analysis shows that the work-from-home sentiment rose from 21.51% pre-pandemic to a significant 48% during the pandemic, gradually stabilizing at approximately 39% currently. Likewise, hobbies such as movie watching and music enjoyment have become more prominent as people seek immersive experiences from the comfort of their homes.

Case Study: Musision

A notable example is Musision, a soundproof rental apartment brand that allows residents to play instruments at any hour. The findings reveal that around 70% of tenants use the space to play instruments; however, creative utilization is increasing. The percentage of those engaging in Digital Music Production (DTM), recording, and streaming has risen from 3% pre-pandemic to about 11% now, highlighting a shift towards creative and multimedia applications.

Conclusion: A New Functionality

This survey and the tenant data from Musision illustrate how soundproof homes are no longer just for musicians. They symbolize a multifunctional lifestyle that integrates work, creativity, and personal entertainment. With people increasingly working, creating, and enjoying hobbies in home environments, the demand for soundproof living continues to grow. LIVLAN Inc. is committed to supporting this paradigm shift and enhancing the lives of music lovers and creative individuals through innovative living spaces.

Looking Ahead

As society continues to adapt to new norms, the demand for soundproof housing will keep evolving. Companies like LIVLAN are poised to meet this demand by fostering spaces that not only block noise but also enhance the quality of life through creative and functional living environments. The future of residential living is soundproof, versatile, and every bit as exciting as the voices that fill these spaces.
