Infinium Unveils the mSAF Platform to Revolutionize Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production

On September 21, 2026, Infinium announced the launch of its mSAF platform aimed at expanding its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) offerings. This innovative platform utilizes methane-derived feedstocks, including renewable natural gas and biogas, to produce low-carbon aviation fuel. With the aviation industry under increasing pressure to meet sustainability standards, Infinium's approach presents a significant step forward in fuel production methods and environmental responsibility.

Meeting a Critical Need in Aviation

The introduction of the mSAF platform addresses a critical challenge in the aviation sector—ensuring an adequate supply of low-carbon fuel alternatives. No single feedstock source can solely fulfill the soaring demands for sustainable aviation fuels necessitated by industry commitments and regulatory requirements. The mSAF platform diversifies the feedstocks that Infinium can use, integrating materials that are already being collected from landfills, dairy farms, and wastewater treatment facilities across North America, Europe, and Asia.

Leveraging Proven Technology

With over a decade of experience in transforming gas into liquid hydrocarbons, Infinium employs its proprietary Fischer-Tropsch synthesis technology. This technology, known as Synthesize™, is also utilized in the creation of Infinium's eFuels. Both mSAF and eFuels share common synthesis technology, manufacturing processes, specifications, and certification procedures. This shared foundation enables Infinium to optimize resources and maintain quality while expanding its product range.

Innovative Electrified Reforming Process

Infinium's mSAF platform further includes an innovative component called Reform™. This unique methane steam reformer (eSMR) utilizes electricity from renewable sources to provide the necessary heat for the reforming process, subsequently yielding gas with a lower carbon footprint than traditional processes. As part of the Roadrunner project, Infinium is deploying the world's largest eSMR, which converts methane into syngas more efficiently and sustainably.

In conventional methane steam reforming, part of the feed gas is burned for heating, which inadvertently increases lifecycle emissions. Infinium's Reform™ technology successfully eliminates the emissions associated with combustion, allowing for more carbon to be converted into final products rather than being lost in the process.

Carbon Intensity Certification

To ensure transparency and accountability in its sustainable practices, Infinium has partnered with RMI, an independent energy and climate research organization. This collaboration has facilitated the study of growth perspectives for mSAF in the market, identifying biogas and renewable natural gas as crucial drivers for emissions reduction in hard-to-decarbonize sectors.

These avenues offer both climate and commercial benefits when rigorously analyzed for lifecycle impact and supported by reliable verification and certification systems.”

Infinium will ascertain and certify the carbon intensity of projects individually, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks and voluntary certification programs. This will allow the company to maintain high standards for sustainability and environmental stewardship in all its operations.
