Survey Results: Preferred Hospitals by Nursing Students

The landscape of healthcare is ever-evolving, and the aspirations of future nurses play a significant role in shaping it. Recently, a survey named "Job Hope Hospitals Survey - Which Hospitals Do You Want to Work For?!" assessed the preferences of nursing students graduating between 2026 and 2029. Conducted at hospital joint employment briefing sessions across six regions of Japan, the survey attracted responses from 904 nursing students who cast a total of 3,219 votes.

Overview of the Survey

The survey was conducted between April and August of 2025 in six areas: Utsunomiya, Tokyo, Yokohama, Koriyama, Ibaraki, and Gunma, gathering valuable insights into the medical institutions that resonate with the nursing students.

Utsunomiya

On April 26, 2025, the Utsunomiya venue revealed that the top choice overall was Jichi Medical University Hospital. Following closely, in third place was Dokkyo Medical University Hospital, noted for its desirable clinical specialties. Local private hospitals dominated the category of appealing workplace atmosphere.

Tokyo

Tokyo's event, dated August 16, 2025, highlighted Toronomon Hospital as the preferred institution. Academic centers like Juntendo University Hospital and Showa University Hospital secured the second and third positions, respectively. Notably, university hospitals were favored for their enticing educational systems and preferred clinical specialties. Tams Group, known for its broad medical services, claimed the top rank in terms of a positive work environment.

Yokohama

A different dynamic unfolded in Yokohama on June 15, 2025, where Shinyurigaoka General Hospital, a private entity, outperformed public hospitals to take the lead. The Kanagawa Children's Medical Center excelled solely in fulfilling desired clinical specialties and secured the second overall position. The top ranks in educational appeal and encouraging ambience were also occupied predominantly by private medical facilities.

Koriyama

The Koriyama survey on August 7, 2025, showcased regional strengths, with General South Tohoku Hospital, Takeda General Hospital, and South Tohoku Fukushima Hospital comprising the top three. The popularity of local hospitals pointed towards a strong appreciation for their regional healthcare services and specialized fields.

Ibaraki

On August 17, 2025, Ibaraki's findings marked Tsukuba University Hospital as the top choice, which also claimed a notable rank for its attractive educational system. The Tsukuba Medical Center Hospital followed, earning recognition for its favorable atmosphere. Additionally, General South Tohoku Hospital performed well, making it into the top rankings across multiple categories.

Gunma

Finally, in Gunma, the survey conducted on August 23, 2025, placed Maebashi Red Cross Hospital at the summit. It resonated strongly with students seeking fulfilling clinical specializations. The Gunma Prefectural Hospital was also held in high regard, ranking third overall while including local and adjacent prefecture hospitals in discussions.

Conclusion and Implications

The overall findings unveil the critical factors influencing nursing students' selections. The emphasis appears less on the institutional prestige and more on the alignment of hospitals with desired clinical practices and work environments. This insight could help hospitals better tailor their offerings to attract budding healthcare professionals. As the healthcare landscape grows, understanding the desires of future nursing talent remains paramount for both educational institutions and potential employers.
