Proud Partners to Launch Initial Initiatives for Accepting Skilled Foreign Workers in Construction Industry

Proud Partners Initiates Support for Skilled Foreign Workers in Construction

As the construction industry grapples with a chronic labor shortage, Proud Partners, a leading company based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is stepping up its commitment to facilitate the acceptance of skilled foreign workers. Starting from December 15, they will launch initiatives aimed at educating construction companies about the contributions and capabilities of foreign personnel.

Currently, there is a significant rise in foreign workers across the construction sector, yet many small to medium-sized enterprises are hesitant to employ them due to misunderstandings, prejudices, and concerns regarding language barriers, safety management, and treatment. This reluctance comes at a time when it is crucial for the construction industry to sustain its operations and infrastructure, especially given that the influx of foreign talent is seen as essential for the future.

Background to the Initiative

The construction industry in Japan is facing increasing challenges, especially as we approach the busy season leading to the fiscal year-end. With the introduction of overtime regulations starting in April 2024, the industry needs to enhance its workforce while balancing workload reforms and continuity of operations.

Despite the growing number of foreign workers, the prevailing issues of misunderstanding and prejudices must be addressed to promote a more inclusive environment. Proud Partners aims to create opportunities for construction companies to recognize the immediate benefits of hiring skilled foreign personnel by highlighting their potential as on-site assets.

Program Details

As part of this initiative, Proud Partners is calling for applications from ten construction companies willing to participate in pre- and post-interviews concerning the integration of skilled foreign workers.

Selected companies will have their hiring costs covered for one foreign worker (as an operational staff member), alongside a commitment to publish the interview results. This step is designed to foster a better understanding of foreign worker integration within the construction sector.

The initiative is designed not only to alleviate fears associated with foreign worker hiring but also to promote a fair and accurate understanding of their roles.

Applicants Must Meet Certain Criteria

  • - Interested companies should support key goals of the initiative.
  • - A selection process will be conducted by Proud Partners to choose ten eligible companies that align with the project's objectives.
  • - All participating companies must submit their applications by December 31, 2025.
