International Exchange Program Brings Canadian Students to Japan for Cultural Engagement

ID Gakuen High School Welcomes Canadian Students for Cultural Exchange

On March 18, 2026, ID Gakuen High School’s Suidobashi Campus conducted an engaging cultural exchange program by welcoming nine students from Burnaby South Secondary School in Canada. This initiative was part of an educational travel program supported by the Tokyo Convention and Visitors Bureau (TCVB), aimed at fostering international understanding through cultural experiences.

Expanding Global Perspectives

The main focus of this program was to broaden students’ global perspectives through cross-cultural exchange. By leveraging English as a medium of communication, students actively participated in the planning and execution of various activities, allowing for organic engagement and learning opportunities.

Highlights of the Event

The day commenced with a lively welcome ceremony where both schools introduced themselves and exchanged souvenirs, laying the groundwork for friendly relationships. The event included an ice-breaking activity where students collaborated to build a newspaper tower, fostering natural communication.

Students also organized workshops that showcased traditional Japanese cultural experiences, including calligraphy, origami, dashi (Japanese soup stock) tasting, and tea ceremony. This program allowed participants to appreciate the nuances of Japanese expression and culinary culture, creating a space for meaningful exchanges beyond language barriers.

Through this program, a multidimensional exchange that spanned education, culture, and communication was cultivated, offering an invaluable opportunity to nurture practical international understanding.
