Highmark Partners with Noom to Revolutionize Health Management Solutions for Members

In an innovative move aimed at addressing rising health issues in the United States, Highmark has announced a strategic collaboration with Noom, a recognized leader in preventive health solutions. Starting in 2026, nearly two million eligible Highmark members will gain access to Noom’s specialized weight management program. This initiative aims not only to combat obesity, which affects over 74% of adults in the U.S., but also to enhance overall wellbeing through behavior modification and personalized guidance.

The partnership emphasizes a comprehensive health approach, utilizing Noom’s unique strategy which combines advanced technology, personalized coaching, and behavior change methodologies. This multifaceted program is designed to support members in reaching their health objectives, improving their habits, and ultimately fostering a sustainable healthy lifestyle.

According to Tracy Saula, Highmark's Chief Product and Experience Officer, "Our members will find that Noom Weight Management is customized to their unique needs and goals, guiding them toward implementing changes and ultimately sustaining a healthy routine." By participating in the program, eligible members will first complete an onboarding assessment that helps determine the most suitable Noom journey for their specific health needs, including weight management and diabetes risk reduction.

Noom’s programs are particularly noteworthy for their ability to cater to individuals at various risk levels, including those already living with type 2 diabetes or predisposed to it. Each tailored program includes bite-sized educational lessons, access to AI-driven smart tools, and community support that encourages peer interactions. One striking feature of Noom’s program is its emphasis on understanding the psychology behind eating habits, which aids members in fostering a positive relationship with food and reframing setbacks as part of their overall journey.

The Noom Weight Management program is packed with features that make healthy eating more manageable, including tools for smart food logging and real-time progression monitoring. Integration with fitness wearables also allows for comprehensive tracking of physical activity, providing members with a complete view of their health and achievements. Moreover, Noom's Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) stands out as a pioneering initiative, having received the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Full Plus Recognition—indicative of its sustained success and engagement.

The DPP not only educates members on potential diabetic risks but also equips them with practical strategies to mitigate these risks through healthier lifestyle choices and daily habits that can help maintain stable blood glucose levels. Additionally, Noom offers a specialized program for members already managing diabetes, facilitating a deeper understanding of how daily decisions impact their health outcomes.

Furthermore, individuals taking GLP-1 medications will benefit from Noom’s integrated features designed to provide tailored advice regarding protein intake, muscle retention, and effective methods for managing medication side effects. As Cody Fair, Noom’s Chief Commercial Officer, stated, “Health is more than managing weight or a diagnosis—it's about creating lasting habits that support overall well-being.”

Both Highmark and Noom recognize the significant financial burden obesity places on the healthcare system, costing an astounding $173 billion annually. Research suggests that a loss of just 5 to 10% of body weight can yield substantial health benefits, underscoring the importance of programs like Noom Weight Management. By fostering positive lifestyle changes, this collaboration seeks not only to improve individual health outcomes but also to alleviate the economic strain associated with obesity-related conditions.

Dr. Susan Deakin, Highmark’s Vice President and Medical Director, reinforces this proactive approach, stating, "This allows for members to focus on improving their daily lifestyle habits, providing them with the support they need for long-lasting change." Starting on January 1, 2026, Highmark members can verify their eligibility for Noom Weight Management through the My Highmark mobile app or web portal, further advancing their journey towards healthier living.

In addition to supporting individual health goals, this collaboration underlines the importance of preventative health initiatives within the U.S. health care landscape. The fusion of technology, community, and personalized care exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to health management, paving the way for innovative methods to combat chronic health challenges.

Highmark Health operates on a vast scale, encompassing a workforce of 44,000 employees dedicated to serving millions across the United States. This collaboration with Noom further cements Highmark’s commitment to enhancing health services and ensuring that members have access to the best tools available for managing their health.

Noom continues to lead the charge in preventive health, promoting resources designed for longevity and well-being, thus aligning perfectly with Highmark's vision for comprehensive member care.
