Mazda's September Sales Report: A Mixed Performance in Vehicle Sales

Mazda's Sales Performance in September 2025

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) has disclosed the sales results for September 2025, revealing a total of 26,169 vehicles sold. This figure represents a 12.3% decline compared to the same month in the previous year, September 2024. However, despite this downturn, the year-to-date sales show a 2% increase, totaling 319,664 vehicles sold. The sales statistics also reveal that Mazda had 24 selling days last September, compared to just 23 days in 2024, leading to a notable 16% drop on a Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis.

Notable Highlights

Among the highlights from the September sales report, Mazda's Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales totaled 5,974 units, marking a 6.5% increase from September 2024. Year-to-date CPO sales reached 56,523 vehicles, indicating a minor growth of 0.1% as compared to last year. The highlights from September 2025 include:

  • - The third-best total sales figure for September since 1995.
  • - Record-breaking sales of the CX-50, with 8,876 units sold.

In addition, local sales figures vary significantly between regions. Mazda Canada, Inc. (MCI) reported strong results with 7,996 vehicles sold, an impressive 18.5% increase year-over-year, and cumulative sales for the year reached 64,017 units, reflecting a 16.1% rise. Conversely, Mazda Motor de Mexico (MMdM) experienced a slight decline, selling 7,430 vehicles for September, down by 4% from prior year levels. Yet, year-to-date sales in Mexico still surged to 75,069 vehicles, an increase of 9%.

Analysis of Sales Performance

A closer look at the specific models shows varying sales trends. The Mazda3 saw a significant decrease with 1,500 units sold, representing a 42.8% drop year-on-year. Conversely, the MX-5 Miata managed to maintain performance levels with 524 units, reflecting only a slight decrease of 3.9%. The CX-30, however, did not fare well, selling only 3,271 units, a sharp 43% decline compared to the previous year.

The standout performer, the CX-50, showcases Mazda's focus on newer models. The substantial sales figures in the face of a generally challenging market environment reflect Mazda's ongoing commitment to producing vehicles that resonate with consumers, particularly in the SUV segment.

Closing Remarks

While September sales reflect some challenges, the overall growth in year-to-date figures underscores Mazda's resilience. With strategic marketing efforts and an expanding range of vehicles, MNAO is poised to navigate the fluctuations in consumer demand. As they enhance their product offerings and customer engagement, it will be interesting to observe how these factors influence upcoming sales figures in the automotive market.
