Nippon Chikudenchi Launches Innovative Energy Storage Facility in Japan

Nippon Chikudenchi's New Energy Storage Initiative

Nippon Chikudenchi Co., Ltd. has recently launched its advanced energy storage facility, named "NC Idate-gun Kawamata Town Storage," in Idate-gun, Fukushima Prefecture. Set to commence operations on August 13, 2026, this facility is a critical step towards enhancing Japan's energy management, especially in balancing supply and demand within the renewable energy market.

Facility Overview

The NC Idate-gun Kawamata Town Storage facility boasts a remarkable capacity, with a rated output of 1,988 kW and an energy storage capacity of 8,146 kWh, thanks to the state-of-the-art battery system supplied by CATL. The partnership with Digital Grid, another key player in the energy sector, allows for effective aggregation and participation in demand-supply adjustment markets, ensuring a more robust infrastructure for Japan's evolving power landscape.

Addressing Energy Supply Challenges

As renewable energy sources become increasingly prominent in Japan, managing fluctuations in power supply and demand has become a critical issue. The use of energy storage systems is gaining traction as they offer a solution to bridge the timing gap between energy generation and consumption. By stabilizing the grid and contributing to the sophistication of the energy market, this project positions itself as a model for future developments in energy management.

The collaboration between Nippon Chikudenchi and Digital Grid focuses on three main areas:
1. Development and Operations: Nippon Chikudenchi is responsible for the overall development, operation, and on-site management of the storage facility.
2. Digital Aggregation: Utilizing Digital Grid's innovative platform, the project will enhance participation in demand-supply adjustment markets.
3. Sustainable Power Model: Together, they aim to create a sustainable power adjustment model through the integration of technology, operations, and market strategies.

Looking Ahead

Nippon Chikudenchi plans to expand its network of energy storage facilities across Japan, connecting various energy sectors, including wholesale markets, demand-supply adjustment markets, capacity markets, and disaster recovery energy initiatives. Through this collaborative effort with Digital Grid, the company aims to contribute significantly to the stable utilization of renewable energy and the realization of a carbon-neutral society.
