Transforming Awareness into Action: Infant CPR Training at Hoiku Expo West 2025

On July 16, 2025, Japan Lifeline Co., Ltd., headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, organized an essential workshop titled "Infant CPR Training for Emergency Preparedness" at the Hoiku Expo West 2025, hosted at MyDome Osaka. This event aimed to empower childcare professionals, including nursery teachers and facility staff, by bridging the significant gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills in life-saving techniques.

The workshop was led by a qualified instructor from Japan Lifeline, who is certified by the American Heart Association (AHA) as a Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor. During the session, participants engaged in hands-on training using infant mannequins and training AEDs, which provided a realistic and impactful learning experience. The prevailing sentiment shared by participants highlighted a crucial insight: "Knowing something in theory is vastly different from being able to perform it in practice."

Addressing the Critical Need for Child Safety Training

In childcare settings, ensuring the safety of children is a top priority. However, many childcare providers express concern about their ability to respond effectively in critical situations, especially during emergencies like cardiac arrest in infants. Addressing this issue, Japan Lifeline hosted the workshop to ensure that caregivers are prepared for real-life emergencies, fostering a confident and capable environment for child safety.

Many life-saving skills can be taught through traditional lectures, but this workshop broke the mold by incorporating real-life scenarios that childcare professionals might face in their careers. Instructor Hitomi Suzuki led the discussions, providing guidance not just on how to perform CPR but also on what to do when an emergency strikes.

Filling the Knowledge-Practice Gap through Hands-On Experience

Attendees participated in various practical exercises, experiencing the complete process: from assessing an unresponsive infant and calling for help (including arranging for AED delivery) to performing chest compressions and operation of the AED itself. Some powerful feedback from participants included:
  • - "I was surprised at how much strength is needed for chest compressions."
  • - "I recognized that there’s a considerable difference between knowing something and actually doing it. Regular training is necessary."
  • - "Using the AED was simpler than I expected due to the voice guidance. It's crucial to use it without hesitation."

It was clear that this workshop had become a pivotal opportunity, elevating participants' awareness and skills from merely theoretical knowledge to practical application, thus empowering them to act confidently in emergencies.

The Training Experience

During the event, participants were fully engaged, witnessing demonstrations and receiving guidance tailored specifically for the childcare context. They practiced:
  • - Administering chest compressions on infant mannequins
  • - Proper AED pad placement while continuing compressions
  • - Performing CPR techniques even on adult mannequins for broader skill acquisition

Instructors’ Passion and Commitment

Hitomi Suzuki shared, "Witnessing the earnest expressions on participants’ faces made it clear how deeply they care about safeguarding children’s lives. It's rewarding to think that our efforts contribute to a safer childcare environment. I am immensely grateful to everyone who participated." This sentiment encapsulated the primary goal of the workshop, which is to enhance emergency preparedness in childcare settings.

Looking Ahead

Japan Lifeline is dedicated to continuing its mission of AED awareness and practical training sessions like this one. The company aims to foster a socially responsible environment where individuals are encouraged to take action in crisis situations, thus contributing to the safety of society’s most precious assets—our children.
