Celebrating a Decade of Memory Care: Senior Lifestyle Partners with Alzheimer's Association

Senior Lifestyle Celebrates 10 Years of Partnership with the Alzheimer's Association

This June marks an important milestone for Senior Lifestyle as it celebrates a decade of collaboration with the Alzheimer's Association during Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. This partnership has not only brought attention to Alzheimer's and dementia care but has also fostered significant advancements in memory care practices across Senior Lifestyle communities nationwide.

Since the partnership began in 2015, Senior Lifestyle has successfully raised over $600,000 through innovative fundraising initiatives such as The Longest Day event and various local activities including carnivals and walking events. In just 2024 alone, the company raised an impressive $105,000, and as of now, they have already amassed nearly $70,000 in contributions in 2025, showcasing ongoing community support and commitment.

The heart of this partnership is Senior Lifestyle's dedication to providing personalized, human-centered memory care to the increasing number of Americans affected by Alzheimer’s disease. This commitment is embodied in their award-winning Embrace memory care program. Embrace is designed with a philosophy that values meaningful interactions and moments, particularly when memories begin to fade. The program integrates cognitive stimulation, emotional bonding, and sensory therapies to create a rich, engaging environment for residents.

Brittany Coleman, Senior Lifestyle's Divisional Director of Memory Care, commented, "Embrace was created to elevate the standard of memory care provided in our communities. It serves as a foundational approach that prioritizes personal connections and addresses the unique needs of each resident and their family."

What sets Embrace apart is its focus on reducing reliance on medication by utilizing engagement-based interventions that encourage residents to connect with themselves, their loved ones, and their surroundings. One of its standout offerings, the Essence program, employs sensory experiences—aromatherapy, calming visuals, sounds, and touch—that promote comfort and alleviate distress. This innovative approach was honored with Argentum's 2017 Best of the Best Award, recognizing its groundbreaking contributions to memory care.

Senior Lifestyle collaborates with Dr. Jennifer Stelter, a prominent expert in dementia care known as The Oil Doctor, to develop and implement the Essence program. Dr. Stelter, author of The Busy Caregiver's Guide to Advanced Alzheimer's Disease, emphasizes the significant benefits of essential oils in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with dementia. "Intentional integration of essential oils into dementia care significantly improves independence, mood, appetite, sleep patterns, and reduces behavioral challenges," she noted. This evidence-based approach underscores the holistic, person-centered care that Senior Lifestyle strives to offer.

As part of their ongoing efforts, Senior Lifestyle communities will host additional Longest Day fundraising events throughout June, bringing together residents, families, and team members to honor those affected by Alzheimer's and raise awareness about the disease.
