Shibuya Font, a design initiative co-represented by Tsutomu Furuto and Ayumi Isomura, has recently introduced an exciting collaboration with Bologna, the esteemed producer of canned Danish bread. Starting from June 1, 2026, Bologna will incorporate Shibuya Font's distinctive icons and frames into the original designs of their canned pastries. This collaboration aims to provide customers with the freedom to mix and match images, messages, and icons to create personalized cans, ideal for various occasions including gifts and promotional uses.
Founded in Gion, Kyoto, Bologna specializes in the production and sale of Danish bread. In 2004, the company's Niigata factory faced the devastating Chuuetsu Earthquake, instigating a deep reflection on their purpose. The tragedy led them to believe that in times of distress, offering delicious food could provide comfort. Consequently, they ventured into creating long-lasting bread that could serve as a source of strength during tough times, resulting in innovative products like 'Can de Bologna' and 'Bikuchiku de Bologna'. These items, designed for emergency food reserves, have gained popularity not only for disaster preparedness but also as long-lasting promotional gifts for businesses.
The designs provided by Shibuya Font consist of six unique icons and frames, which can be utilized to create original labels for 'Can de Bologna' and 'Bikuchiku de Bologna' through their online store. The creative aspect of these designs emphasizes the charming intersection of welfare and design, effectively capturing a sense of community and joy. This aligns with the heartfelt ethos of Bologna's makers—an intention to alleviate discomfort during distressing times.
Among the original design offerings are three vibrant icons: 'Love Goes On,' created by artist Ayaka and designer Serina Okuma; 'Bubble Nico-chan,' illustrated by Chisato and designed by Tomoe Inoue; and a monochrome mosaic font crafted by the CAMM creative team and palette workshop. Additionally, Shibuya Font has provided three delightful frame designs that carry their own artistic essence: the colorful 'Shibuya Comic', designed by Miku Sato and Fumi Yoshioka; 'Various Dogs' illustrated by Eri Terabaru and designed by Yu Cheuk Shuen; and a heartfelt design called 'Thoughts in Full Bloom,' created by Mamiko and designed by Sana from Kururu Ebisu.
Shibuya Font's collaboration with Bologna is more than just a product launch; it represents a blend of innovation and tradition, providing a fun way for individuals and businesses to craft personalized messages. This unique pairing of high-quality, long-lasting bread with creative designs is set to enhance gifting experiences dramatically.
