His practical experience included working with the ambulatory services during summers at Tuskegee and serving on the Papago Indian Reservation in Arizona as part of the U.S. COSTEP program. After completing his education, Dr. Shorter became an associate at Bergen Animal Hospital in New Jersey, where he quickly established himself as a capable veterinarian. He was among the first veterinary responders at Ground Zero, providing immediate aid to search and rescue dogs following the tragic events.
