Swings for STEM Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Future Innovators
The third annual Swings for STEM golf tournament was hosted on October 30, 2026, by the Alliance for Chemical Distribution (ACD) and the American Chemistry Council (ACC). This exciting event, held in Washington, D.C., successfully gathered numerous stakeholders from the chemical industry, policymakers, academic leaders, and students, raising an impressive $100,000 to support future generations in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
The funds raised will benefit initiatives such as the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) and Creating Exciting Futures in STEM (CEFinSTEM), both aimed at increasing access to STEM education and providing scholarship opportunities. This year’s tournament saw the participation of industry leaders, including Eric R. Byer, President and CEO of ACD, and Chris Jahn, President and CEO of ACC.
Eric R. Byer emphasized the importance of nurturing the next generation within the chemical distribution industry: "The future of our industry depends on the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators, and we have a responsibility to help them succeed. Swings for STEM is about more than raising money; it's about building relationships and opening doors for talented young people. We are incredibly grateful for all who participated, helping us invest in the future of STEM leadership."
Chris Jahn added, "Chemistry is at the core of American innovation, and maintaining our leadership hinges on investing in upcoming talent. Since launching FOSSI, our objective has been to create new avenues for STEM careers and enhance the chemical industry's talent pipeline. With nearly $300,000 raised over the last three years through this event, we are making significant strides in achieving that vision."
This year's tournament also featured a special program for FOSSI scholars, which included a golf clinic, leadership development workshops, and networking opportunities. One of the scholarship recipients, Brandon Simmons, shared his enthusiasm about the event, stating that it was a rewarding experience. He enjoyed connecting with fellow FOSSI scholars and acquiring new skills.
"The event was a great opportunity to build relationships and learn alongside other scholars from various schools. I am thankful to FOSSI for fostering personal growth and a sense of community," said Simmons.
In appreciation for the support received, ACD and ACC wish to thank the sponsors behind this successful event. These included notable names such as American Cleaning Institute, Chevron Phillips Chemical, and the Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates (SOCMA), among many others.
