Celebrating 50 Years of Pediatric Nursing Expertise
The Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB), representing over 58,000 nursing professionals, is poised to celebrate a remarkable milestone in 2025: its 50th anniversary. This year-long celebration aims to honor the unwavering commitment of pediatric nurses and nurse practitioners in fostering a healthier world, one child at a time.
As part of its jubilee, PNCB will conduct a series of commemorative events focusing on the monumental contributions these healthcare professionals make towards improving child health. Amanda Vickers, the current Board Chair, emphasized that this milestone represents more than mere longevity. It signals the evolution of pediatric nursing into a specialized field vital for children's healthcare.
In collaboration with key organizations such as the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), the Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN), and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), PNCB has played a pivotal role in raising the standards of care to ensure young patients receive the highest quality of healthcare nationwide.
Key Celebratory Events
The pediatric nursing community is warmly invited to partake in anniversary festivities occurring alongside two significant conferences: the NAPNAP 46th National Conference on Pediatric Health Care in Chicago from March 10-13, 2025, and the SPN 35th Annual Conference in Anaheim, California, from April 30 to May 2, 2025. Participation in these anniversary activities requires prior registration for the respective conferences.
Professional Development and Initiatives
PNCB’s commitment to enhancing the skills and competencies of nurses dedicated to child care is apparent through its four flagship credential programs. The organization currently certifies more than:
- - 31,000 Certified Pediatric Nurses (CPN)
- - 5,200 Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (CPNP-AC)
- - 21,000 Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (CPNP-PC)
- - 900 Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialists (PMHS)
Ensuring high standards and expanding access to quality credentialing and educational opportunities remains a priority for PNCB. In this landmark year, PNCB is focusing on two key initiatives: evaluating credentialing trends and exploring best practices related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in pediatric care.
