Sands China Collaborates with NBA Cares for Community Impact Week 2026

Sands China and NBA Cares Unite for 2026 Community Impact Week

Sands China is once again stepping up its community commitment by partnering with NBA Cares to present the 'NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week 2026.' Set against the backdrop of the NBA China Games taking place in Macao, this five-day event runs from October 7 to 11, aiming to uplift the local community through sports.

The initiative kicked off with ‘Youth Day,’ held at the Macao East Asian Games Dome on October 7, where approximately 300 young participants from the Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao regions gathered. This vibrant event leveraged the excitement of basketball to foster social inclusion and youth development. Notable NBA figures, including legend Ray Allen, joined in to share their expertise and interact with participants.

Engaging the Youth

The lineup for Youth Day featured professional training sessions led by renowned athletes, including NBA star Ray Allen, Chinese national women’s basketball team player Zhang Ziyu, and basketball sensation Ding Yanyuhang. Attendees engaged in physical fitness assessments and basketball clinics, where they learned essential skills such as footwork, offensive and defensive strategies, and ball handling techniques from professional coaches.

One of the highlights was the friendly basketball matches that united participants from the Greater Bay Area, demonstrating the power of sports to break down barriers and foster friendships. Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd, emphasized the significance of harnessing high-profile sporting events to spread positivity and give back to the community.

Sharing Inspiring Stories

In addition to sports activities, the event featured a 'Her Time to Play' panel discussion designed to empower young women. Esteemed speakers included Dawn Smyth from the NBA, Gina Miller from the Dallas Mavericks, and Gretchen Sheirr from the Houston Rockets. They shared personal stories of growth, encouraging attendees to cultivate self-confidence and chase their dreams actively.

As part of the program, 150 young basketball players from eight local Macao schools participated, alongside peers from Hong Kong and other regions. The approach highlighted the event’s goal to create opportunities for youth collaboration and skill enhancement, further solidifying ties within the GBA community.

Looking Ahead

The remaining days of the NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week will continue to feature various programs focused on healthy living and the empowerment of local youth. With activities designed to resonate with participants of all backgrounds, the collaboration showcases a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment through the excitement of basketball.

NBA Cares and Sands Cares aim to extend the reach of this initiative as they focus not only on sports but also on community engagement that creates a lasting impact. By leveraging the excitement surrounding the NBA China Games, Sands China plays a vital role in supporting socio-economic development in Macao and fostering a sense of unity among the youth. As Dr. Wong noted, there is a concerted effort to keep enhancing Macao's sporting identity while contributing positively to its diverse community. As the week continues, excitement remains high as young athletes receive invaluable guidance and inspiration from elite basketball talent, making memories that extend beyond the court.
