Omron Establishes New Support Model for Youth Development Combining Transportation and Nutrition

Supporting Youth Development with New Model from Omron

Omron Social Solutions Co., Ltd. (OSS), headquartered in Tokyo, is initiating a new support model designed to alleviate mobility challenges faced by young athletes. Leveraging its expertise gained from transportation solutions, OSS will kick off a demonstration project on February 3, 2026. This project combines community-focused transportation with nutritional support during training sessions and aims to ease the burdens on athletes, families, and sports clubs.

Context and Need for Support

In many regions, particularly in rural areas, the shrinking population has led to a decline in public transportation options, complicating day-to-day travel for residents. Young athletes often experience additional stresses, such as transportation to practice venues and preparation of snacks for post-training recovery. Families, especially those with both parents working, frequently report difficulties in providing adequate nutrition. Therefore, establishing support mechanisms that reduce pressures on families and clubs has become increasingly critical.

Understanding these challenges, OSS is utilizing its experience with the public ride-sharing service “meemo” to develop a support model that merges transportation with nutritional aids. By collaborating with local communities, OSS aims to streamline rides and integrate nutrition provided by Ajinomoto Co., Ltd., ensuring young athletes receive both support before and after practices. This integrated approach aims not only to facilitate easier access to training but also to contribute to a more sustainable environment for youth sports.

Project Outline

The upcoming demonstration project will focus on community collaboration to provide pick-up services while also offering nutritional support through the use of Ajinomoto's Amino Vital® energy gel drinks. By creating efficient pathways for both transportation and nutrition, OSS targets the alleviation of logistical burdens faced by families and sports clubs, thus promoting a more conducive environment for young athletes to engage in sports.

OSS’s Commitment to Community Solutions

With nearly 60 years of experience in public transportation solutions, OSS is committed to accelerating its efforts toward problem-solving in collaboration with regional partners. The resources and technology accumulated over decades will be pivotal in creating sustainable community programs that address broader societal issues, including labor shortages and energy concerns. By continuously embracing cutting-edge technologies such as IoT, AI, and robotics, OSS aims to contribute to a safe and secure society.

Public Ride Share 'meemo' Supports Community Transport

Since 2019, OSS has been providing public ride-sharing services through “meemo.” This initiative is aimed at tackling the issue of transportation gaps within communities. By overseeing everything from research to operational improvements, OSS strives to become a reliable choice for public transport while ensuring local issues are addressed effectively.

Consultation Services for Local Governments

For municipalities contemplating the adoption of the “meemo” system, OSS has prepared detailed service materials and established support avenues for public ride-sharing service implementation.
