Empowering Women Through Digital Inclusion at the China-Germany Forum
At the 2025 China-Germany Sustainable Development Forum held in Beijing, Kuaishou Technology showcased a significant initiative aimed at promoting digital inclusion and empowering women during economic transitions. This platform, renowned for its content community and social networking capabilities, expressed its dedication to fostering an inclusive environment for women through innovative digital means.
Song Tingting, the Vice President of Kuaishou and President of the Kuaishou Public Welfare Foundation, participated in a panel discussion titled "Opportunities and Challenges for Women in the Economic Transition." During her talk, she elaborated on how the company leverages its digital tools and platform to increase women's visibility, enable them to create economic opportunities, and encourage their active participation in the digital economy.
In her address, Ms. Song emphasized that, amidst the current economic transformations, digital technology has emerged as one of the most potent assets for women seeking to capitalize on growth opportunities. "Historically, a substantial amount of women's potential remained overlooked, especially for those residing in remote areas," she noted. "Kuaishou’s mission is to dismantle these invisible barriers so that women can be seen, acknowledged, and empowered to realize their full potential on our platform. This is the true purpose of inclusive technology."
Since 2018, Kuaishou has introduced numerous public welfare programs such as "Happy Rural Leaders," "Her Power Academy," and "Empowering for Happiness." These initiatives provide complimentary training in digital skills and essential equipment to women from underserved and rural communities. As a result, more than 10,000 women have been trained as leaders, with millions of women enjoying enhanced incomes, leading to greater economic independence and improved livelihoods.
"While the challenges facing women in this economic transition are tangible," Ms. Song stated, "the role of digital technology as a powerful tool for overcoming these challenges is becoming increasingly clear." She highlighted the transition of women from marginalized participants to vital contributors in rural revitalization and economic growth. A case in point is Zhang Xiaosi, a Kuaishou user from Shandong province, who returned home to care for her ill father. Through Kuaishou’s support and training, she began selling local cherries online, witnessing her sales surge by over 36 times, earning more than 80,000 yuan. Her story not only uplifted her income but also benefitted the elderly villagers and led her to become a local congresswoman.
"Technology is merely a tool; kindness is a choice," Ms. Song reflected. "We firmly believe that the empowerment of one woman equates to the empowerment of a family, or even an entire village. This encapsulates the essence of 'tech for good.'"
Despite the remarkable advancements, Ms. Song pointed out two significant hurdles that women continue to face: balancing family responsibilities with professional advancement and addressing the digital divide, primarily in isolated regions where access to tools and information is scarce. She called for broader support on international, national, corporate, and individual fronts.
Looking ahead, Ms. Song proposed enhancing collaboration between China and Germany to support women in the digital economy. She suggested the co-development of a bilateral training system aimed at cultivating women leaders in digital commerce, sustainable development, and entrepreneurship, melding China's expertise in digital platform usage with Germany’s strengths in vocational education and sustainability. She also advocated for creating an exchange platform to connect female entrepreneurs from both countries for mutual learning and collaboration.
Kuaishou remains committed to establishing global partnerships to advance inclusive digital transformation, reduce inequalities, and support the long-term growth and development of women through accessible technology.
