New Burlington Police Station Construction Contract Awarded to CTA Construction Managers

CTA Construction Managers Wins Major Contract

In a significant development for public safety in Burlington, Massachusetts, CTA Construction Managers has been awarded the contract to build a new police station that aims to replace the existing facility, which dates back to the 1890s. The current police station has served its purpose for over 30 years, but it has fallen short of modern building codes and the operational needs of a contemporary police department.

Tom Downie, the Senior Project Manager at CHA, which is serving as the Owner's Project Manager (OPM) for this project, emphasized the inadequacies of the existing structure. He stated, "While the historical building has been functional, it no longer meets the requirements for a modern police station or the safety standards for both the community and officers. The new facility will enhance security and operational efficiency for the police force."

The design for the new station, developed by Kaestle Boos Associates, incorporates traditional colonial elements complemented by modern improvements. As described by Project Manager Kevin Witzell, the facility will feature brick facades, ample natural light, and energy-efficient windows. The design also prioritizes functionality, separating public access areas, detainee spaces, and administrative offices. Key facilities within the building will include a community room, a wellness center, a sally port for secure detainee transport, and secure areas for evidence.

Having worked with the Town of Burlington for over 15 years, CTA Construction Managers is well-prepared for this challenge, marking their fifth construction project in the area. The firm has previously completed essential projects such as the Memorial Elementary School and the Burlington DPW facilities. This long-standing partnership demonstrates CTA's commitment to enhancing the community through quality infrastructure.

Jeff Hazelwood, Principal at CTA Construction Managers, shared his excitement for the project, stating, "This project underscores our dedication to building high-quality civic facilities that will benefit the community for years to come. We are proud to collaborate with the Town of Burlington and trusted partners on this pivotal public safety initiative."
