Primavera Moves to Take Over Oil Fields in Venezuela with New Leadership Team

Primavera's Bold Initiative in Venezuela's Oil Industry

In a significant move towards revitalizing the oil industry in Venezuela, Primavera, based in Houston, Texas and Caracas, has announced its preparations to take over operations of oil fields in the country. This ambitious initiative follows crucial agreements reached with Venezuela's Ministry of Hydrocarbons and the state-run oil company, PdVSA, on September 2, 2026.

To spearhead this effort, Primavera has fortified its leadership team, bringing in experienced professionals from various sectors of the oil industry. Notably, Oscar Quintero has been appointed to lead the operational team in Venezuela. Quintero previously held the position of President of the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) division at Occidental Petroleum, where he gained vast experience in managing both conventional and unconventional assets, particularly in locations like the Permian Basin.

Born in Venezuela, Quintero's return to his homeland is a hallmark of Primavera's mission to harness the expertise of Venezuelans who have relocated abroad. "I am thrilled to see many compatriots return home to uplift our country," noted Manuel Iribarren, co-founder of Primavera. This sentiment resonates with many in the Venezuelan diaspora eager to contribute to their nation's future.

In addition to Quintero, Primavera has welcomed three more high-profile executives, all of whom have extensive backgrounds with Chevron Venezuela. Mario Gandara assumes the role of Chief Commercial Officer, while Jorge Castro and Ivette Lopez take on the positions of Senior Vice President of Finance and Business Management, and Vice President of Legal and Compliance, respectively. Their combined expertise and established relationships within Venezuela are expected to enhance Primavera's collaboration with local partners, including the Ministry and PdVSA.

Dheeraj Verma, another co-founder, expressed confidence in the company's capability, stating, "Our focus on execution excellence and responsible development distinguishes us as we aim to become a leading natural resources company in Venezuela." He emphasized the company's goal of boosting production while creating hundreds of new jobs both in Venezuela and Texas.

Primavera's leadership team also includes Troy Finney, who will oversee operations, John Grimmer as Vice President of Engineering and Evaluations, and Michael Jensen responsible for Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental Operations. Finney's extensive hands-on experience will be crucial as the company aims to expand oil exploration and production in the region.

Primavera's strategy aims not only for increased oil production but also to promote a sustainable and responsible approach to resource management, essential for ensuring long-term viability in Venezuela's shifting energy landscape. The company is set to make significant announcements about its goals and milestones in the coming months.
