Duke Energy Florida Introduces Innovative Credit Program for EV Customers

In Florida, where electric vehicle (EV) registrations are among the highest in the United States, Duke Energy Florida is enhancing the benefits for EV users through its Off-Peak Charging Credit program. This initiative aims to encourage customers to charge their vehicles during off-peak hours, providing them with financial incentives while simultaneously supporting energy efficiency in the region.

Launched in 2022, the program allows eligible EV owners to earn a monthly credit of $7.50 on their electricity bill when they charge their cars during designated off-peak hours. These hours are crucial for reducing energy demand on the grid, helping to stabilize costs and improve service for all customers. Specifically, the eligible charging times are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays, as well as anytime during the weekends and holidays.

Melissa Seixas, state president of Duke Energy Florida, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting its customers. 'We’re always looking for ways to help our customers save money,' she stated. 'For EV drivers, participating in the Off-Peak Charging Credit program is an easy way to lower their monthly bills and be energy-conscious at the same time.' This program has already proven successful, with participants collectively receiving $1.5 million in credits since its inception.

The initiative is not just beneficial for Duke Energy’s customers; it also reinforces the company’s dedication to energy modernization and sustainability. With a service area covering 13,000 square miles and supplying electricity to over two million customers, Duke Energy Florida is focusing on creating an energy-efficient future. The Off-Peak Charging Credit program represents part of a broader strategy aimed at encouraging responsible energy consumption and supporting the growing community of electric vehicle owners.

To participate in the program, interested customers need to ensure they have a Level 2 charger installed at their homes. Customers can sign up for the Off-Peak Charging Credit program through Duke Energy's official website, duke-energy.com/OffPeak. Notably, each account can register up to two electric vehicles, allowing families or individuals with multiple vehicles to benefit from these credits.

Duke Energy Florida is a subsidiary of Duke Energy, one of the largest energy holding companies in the United States, serving a significant number of customers across various states. With a commitment to enhancing customer value, Duke Energy is investing in modernizing its grid and efficient energy generation resources, ensuring that it meets the needs of its growing customer base.

In conclusion, the Off-Peak Charging Credit program is an excellent example of how companies can leverage innovative solutions to promote sustainability while providing real financial benefits to customers. As electric vehicles grow in popularity, initiatives like this will be crucial in promoting their adoption and supporting energy-efficient practices. This program serves as a model for other states and energy providers looking to engage with their communities in the transition to a more sustainable energy future.
