NAGASE Cup 2025: A Celebration of Athletic Excellence and Inclusivity
The NAGASE Cup 2025, a prestigious track and field event, took place on November 23 and 24, 2025, at the National Stadium in Shinjuku, Tokyo. This year marked the largest participation since its inception, featuring around 1,700 athletes, including 291 para-athletes, who showcased their skills on an international platform.
Organized by the Japan Para Athletics Federation and the Tokyo Athletics Association, the NAGASE Cup continues to foster an inclusive environment, where athletes of all ages, nationalities, and abilities can compete. The event not only highlights athletic prowess but also emphasizes the importance of inclusivity in sports. This vision has been clearly demonstrated since the NAGASE Cup's launch in 2021, which aimed to create a stage for everyone to shine.
Throughout the two-day event, approximately 8,000 spectators flocked to the stadium to witness thrilling competitions that led to the breaking of four world records and one Asian record. Athletes from Indonesia and Singapore added a diverse flavor to the event, with standout performances in short-distance events. Singapore's Pereira Veronica Shanti claimed first place in both the women's 100m and 200m events, showcasing her exceptional talent, while Indonesia's Zohri Lalu Muhammad triumphed in the men's 100m.
Surveys conducted during the event revealed that roughly 97% of attendees expressed satisfaction with the event, further solidifying the NAGASE Cup's reputation as a well-organized and enjoyable competition.
Beyond the competitive spirit, the NAGASE Cup also aimed to enhance the overall experience for both athletes and fans. Embracing the theme of expanding inclusivity, numerous interactive programs were offered at the stadium. For the second consecutive year, participants were able to engage in activities such as prosthetic limb experience sessions and immersive viewing experiences using digital devices. New this year was the introduction of wheelchair racing experiences, allowing individuals of all ages to connect with the equipment used by athletes, promoting diversity and inclusion through a hands-on approach.
The event was elevated by the appearance of renowned guests. Kenjiro Toyohara served as the lively MC, delivering commentary and facilitating dialogues with special guests. Acclaimed para-reporter Tsumugi Miyahara conducted interviews with para-athletes, bringing their inspiring stories to the audience. Renowned Olympian Asuka Terada, a former Japanese record holder in the 100m hurdles, participated on the 23rd, interacting with young runners and motivating them. On the 24th, Yoshihide Kiryu, the first Japanese sprinter to record a sub-10 second 100m, celebrated with athletes at the finish line, reinforcing the community spirit.
By showcasing various perspectives and highlighting the values of inclusivity in athletics, the NAGASE Cup continues to pave the way for a future where everyone can participate and excel in sports. The NAGASE Group, under the motto “Delivering next,” is committed to fostering new values and experiences for athletes and spectators alike. They aim to create an inclusive environment that encourages further challenges for athletes while expanding the circle of understanding and acceptance across society.
The NAGASE Cup exemplifies how sports can be a unifying force, creating opportunities for engagement, appreciation, and sharing among individuals, whether they are competitors, audience members, or volunteers.
