Presented annually by the Wuerffel Foundation, this award emphasizes the importance of community engagement in tandem with excellence on the field and in the classroom.

Named after the iconic Danny Wuerffel, a Heisman Trophy winner and former quarterback for the University of Florida, the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy symbolizes the ideals of leadership, service, and unity. Wuerffel's commitment to uplifting his community through athletic platforms continues to inspire a new generation of student-athletes.

“This recognition is important as it highlights the invaluable contributions these student-athletes are making in the lives of those around them,” Wuerffel remarked. “Their dedication to service exemplifies how college athletes can become role models and agents of change.”

A Deep Dive Into the Nominees

Leading the pack this year is the Big Ten Conference, boasting 18 nominees. The ACC, SEC, and Big 12 follow closely, each with 15 names on the list. Among these deserving candidates, an array of standout stories emerges, showcasing the commitment of these young players to bettering their communities:

• - Marcus Ratcliffe (Texas A&M University) - This safety has initiated Mission 312, where he donates $312 for every defensive turnover, supporting educational trips for World War II veterans to Normandy, France.
• - Mudia Reuben (University of South Florida) - Using his Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) earnings, he founded the Nigerian Water Project, securing access to clean water for schools and villages in Nigeria.
• - Colin Simmons (University of Texas) - This defensive end is behind Clay's Color Crew, a nonprofit honoring his younger brother that aids families affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Additionally:

• - Edwin Spillman (University of Tennessee) has created the Wan Famul Foundation using his NIL earnings to support his home country of Sierra Leone by building housing for families in need.
• - Gideon Davidson (Clemson University) raised nearly $13,000 for Flourish Adoption Ministries, assisting both adoptive families and birth mothers in South Carolina.
• - Noah Fifita (University of Arizona) launched the *First Down Faith Foundation, aimed at uniting faith, family, and football through mentorship and skills training camps.
• - Jaylen McClain (Ohio State University), with his Everyday Legends Foundation, focuses on empowering youth by providing scholarships and leadership development programs.

Future Steps and Recognition

This year marks the third collaboration between the Wuerffel Foundation, Allstate, and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as they combine their efforts in recognizing exceptional community service. In September, a select group of 11 from the watchlist will be inducted into the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, setting the stage for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy.

The national selection committee will choose the finalists, with fan voting playing a part in the final decision. The winner will be unveiled on December 11 during the Home Depot College Football Awards and will lead the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

The journey doesn't end there. The award recipient and finalists will join Wuerffel in New York City for prestigious events leading up to the Heisman Trophy ceremony, capped off with the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta in February 2027.
