Sands China Launches Community Care Initiative for Chinese New Year Celebration

Sands China Community Care Initiative for Chinese New Year

Each year, as the Chinese New Year approaches, the hearts and minds of people across the globe, especially in Chinese communities, are filled with joy and anticipation. At Sands China, the celebration takes on a multifaceted approach, merging festivity with community support. This year was no exception, as the company and its team members engaged in meaningful activities aimed at spreading warmth and goodwill throughout Macao.

On February 3, more than 300 participants, including standing senior management from Las Vegas Sands and Sands China team members, came together for the "Sands Cares Spring Celebrations with the Community" initiative. This event exemplified the company’s corporate social responsibility, showcasing how joyous occasions can be transformed into acts of kindness and service.

The day's activities included assembling over 20,000 essential food items and preparations for Lunar New Year gift packs, which would be distributed to the neediest in the community. Each gift pack contained staple foods and special items, including rice, cooking oil, and traditional handwritten spring couplets. This heartfelt gesture not only served immediate needs but reflected a genuine respect for the cultural significance of the Chinese New Year.

Patrick Dumont, president and COO of Las Vegas Sands, along with leadership from different departments, actively participated in the assembly process, further deepening the company’s connection with those they serve. During this hands-on occasion, Dumont shared early New Year greetings with local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), emphasizing Sands China's commitment to long-term partnerships with Macao's business community.

Additionally, one remarkable aspect of the initiative was its collaboration with local NGOs. For instance, the items packed into the gift units were sourced from the Fuhong Society of Macau, reinforcing the local economy while providing essential support to social service organizations. The distribution of over 2,000 Lunar New Year gift packs and meals to the elderly and less fortunate reflects Sands China's ongoing commitment to uplift the Macao community.

Moreover, team members became actively involved in traditional customs by learning to write spring couplets, allowing them to appreciate their cultural relevance in Chinese society. This not only added a layer of engagement to the holiday celebration but also enriched the team’s understanding of the festivities involved.

Sands China takes pride in its role as a responsible employer and dedicated corporate citizen. The Sands Cares Ambassador volunteer team, reportedly the first corporate volunteer group in Macao's industry, has achieved over 360,000 cumulative volunteer hours to date, demonstrating its staff’s enthusiasm for community engagement.

This year's celebrations were even more expansive, featuring collaborations with various social organizations such as the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Service Centre and the Everyone Stray Dogs Macau Volunteer Group. As a culmination of their efforts, a total of 1,000 meal boxes and visits to 200 senior citizens living alone were organized, highlighting the comprehensive reach of the initiative.

Through dedicated volunteerism and meaningful partnerships, Sands China continues to embody the spirit of care and community service that characterizes its corporate ethos. The company's efforts to merge holiday festivities with charitable initiatives not only bring joy but profoundly impact the lives of those in need across Macao, fulfilling its promise to build a more inclusive and caring society.

In conclusion, Sands Cares is more than just a program; it's a commitment to making substantial contributions to community well-being and a promise to keep the celebration of Chinese New Year vibrant and impactful. As Sands China looks forward to future initiatives, it stands firm in its dedication to enriching the lives of the communities where it operates.
