Palsystem Tokyo Takes Significant Steps Towards Carbon Neutrality with 14 New EVs

In a major move towards sustainability, Palsystem Tokyo, based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is set to introduce 14 electric vehicles (EVs) across six delivery locations between the end of September and October this year. This initiative boosts the total number of EVs in use to 27, which includes 15 trucks and 12 light commercial vehicles. This deployment significantly contributes to Palsystem's overarching goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

The latest addition to their fleet is the ISUZU ELFmio EV, manufactured by Isuzu Motors Ltd., headquartered in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. This model is not only user-friendly as it can be driven with a standard driver's license, but it also features advanced safety technology, including the Driver Abnormality Detection System (EDSS), which monitors drivers' conditions by analyzing their facial expressions.

Palsystem Tokyo's introduction of the ISUZU ELFmio EV marks a pioneering effort in Japan's cooperative delivery sector, setting a precedence as the first to adopt this model by October 2024. The vehicle's performance is particularly suited for deliveries in residential neighborhoods, given its low vibration and quiet operation, making it ideal for the delicate process of neighborhood logistics.

To ensure the effectiveness of this new venture, Palsystem Tokyo has also evaluated the performance of other electric truck models previously introduced in their operations. Thus far, six EV trucks have been incorporated by Palsystem Tokyo, while Palsystem Kanagawa has added two vehicles to their fleet, further validating the potential of electric vehicles' performance.

In line with this sustainability effort, the ten delivery bases implementing these EVs will primarily utilize renewable energy sources for their power needs. Approximately 70% of Palsystem's logistical facilities operate on energy supplied by Palsystem Electric, utilizing a mix of renewable energy and FIT electricity. This initiative not only underscores their commitment to cutting down carbon emissions but also exemplifies Palsystem’s mission to promote sustainable energy use among its consumers.

Looking ahead, Palsystem Tokyo aims to achieve a 46% reduction in CO₂ emissions by 2030 compared to 2013 levels. This ambitious target reflects its commitment to collaborative efforts towards creating a decarbonized society.

Additionally, customers are encouraged to explore clean energy options through the services provided by Palsystem Electric, reinforcing the company's commitment to sustainable practices.

Palsystem Tokyo is more than just a cooperative; it’s a forward-thinking organization actively contributing to environmental sustainability. As we approach the International Year of Cooperative in 2025, initiatives like these will pave the path toward a greener future.
